Redshirting
« on: April 21, 2010, 11:56:35 AM »
Just curious to see everyones opinion. I wanted to know if you could redshirt any player(s) this year, who would you and why?

One that I could think of would be Rob Thomas. He probably isn't going to get much playing time this year but could get a decent amount next year (if redshirted of course).

I think Rob is already 2 years older than his co-juniors.

With our potential lack of size, Brownlee would help greatly in '11

Someone should redshirt. Brownlee is an interesting choice.
So is Thomas. But Thomas is already 24? 25?

Thomas seems like he's not needed because Roberts chose not to play him.
He can't play defense, but he does have a great around the basket, and he's the only
player on the team that knows what an up and under is.

Rob can't redshirt for various eligibility reasons.  I think we should just let them all play and leave to open up space for top 150 talent that Lavin can bring in.

Evans could use a year for his skills to grow into his body.

To me, Coker and Evans are the only redshirt options.  Brownlee, Burrell, Boothe, Kennedy, Hardy (my starting lineup) are too valuable next year, Paris Horne will be recruited over so there's no sense in redshirting, Rob Thomas is too old,

I think you redshirt Sean Evans.  Tell him that you'll make him into an NBA player but he needs 2 years, and that as the 5th year senior on a youngster laden team he will be THE man.  I feel like he has more of a chance to be a true impact player with a bunch of frosh.

We need Coker this coming season.  He is our only true center.  Evans is really our only backup as well.
I just dont' understand thsi redshirt talk. Even Norm can bring in a JUCO like JB2.

There are soooo many JUCO's out there that were not high D-1 caliber players, but developed over the 2 1/2 -4 years since they last played as a high school senior.  Jarrid Famous of USF is just one.  Let's be honest...both Sean and Dele are marginal Big East players.

I don't think we should redshirt anyone. It's not like there is such leadership anywhere on this team that it would make a glaring difference.

Burrell knows how to play. He need a coach who believes in running plays through him, and for him. DJ should not be leading the team in shot taken.

I don't think anyone will be redshirted....but if I had to pick someone I would pick Evans.  He could benefit from a year of developing his skills.  But I still think we need everyone to win this year.

Dude, we are probably an NCAA team this year.  We need to put the country on notice now.  We do that by winning.

JB is our stating PF and we are not deep up front.  If we win 22-25 games, finish top 5-6 in the Big East and make the tournament, we will be able to fill our roster with top talent.

This redshirt talk is crazy.

this would be the best thing for burrell, a chance to learn the system for a year, then shine on a young team while he tries to show he can play pro ball. For the team to be successful next year however, we can not be without him.

I think if you give him 18-20 shots per game, Burrell would shoot 50%. He needs the touches. He needs to get comfortable commanding the ball, and leading this team's attack.

If Burrell redshirts we won't win 20 games. Why redshirt him to miss a potential sweet 16 team (with him) just to add a few wins to a 2011-2012 team that will more than likely be a 14-16 win team with him.

Post enough stupid jokes and people will start to think you're just stupid, not a joker.

I don't think we should redshirt anyone either since I think we need to win to get some momentum going. However, looking past this year AND trying to think who would benefit from it... I thought of Thomas since I don't think we will be using him much. This would also give him more time to strengthen the knee and get more conditioned (bike, swim, etc). If it could happen, I thought it would benefit both sides. Unfortunately, everyone is saying he is too old to even consider it.
