Spring signing period ?

I think we're in the middle/end of "spring signing period" right now.

If a qualified recruit doesnt sign now, does that
mean they can't sign in May?  When can they next ?
Any time after graduation, all summer? (I'm guessing)

I think they have to wait until the Fall to sign an official Letter of Intent.

i thought the rules were simply regarding the letter of intent and not signing in general...i thought a recruit could sign scholarship papers anytime, it just doesn't commit him to def going to the school like the LOI does

Yes.  There are other ways a recruit can sign on - the financial aid agreement/ scholarship agreement which is what Brandon Knight signed at Kentucky.  I think there are others; some straggler recruits will sign in the later months.  Rutgers signed a guy last-minute from Kosova, Muhamad Hasani, like that (http://www.scarletknights.com/basketball-men/news/release.asp?prID=8093).

....both in the same year.  Jason Kapono and Spencer Gloger.  Since they're not bound to the school, there's a real period of worry that they'll actually show up on campus - as noted in the thread, they are still free to sign with any school they want.  In Kapono's case, he waited till after the spring signing, as in those days the date to declare for the NBA draft was after the signing date - Kapono wanted to be sure there was PT available.  When Baron Davis declared for the Draft, 35 minutes opened up    The other player, Spencer Gloger was planning on attending Princeton (where thre are no scholies, and no NLIs).  But he waffled, and very late in the process decided to verbal to UCLA.  However, before ever playing for UCLA, he changed his mind, and transferred to Princeton, sitting out a year.  He was the Ivy frosh of the year when he finally did play.   Then....he changed his mind again, and transferred BACK to UCLA.  Sat out a second year.  THEN....transferred back to Princeton, without ever playing for the Bruins.  He was All Ivy as a senior....last I heard he was playing pro ball in Spain....

Fall would be correct for current Juniors.
I'm asking re: seniors (Polee, Jack etc.)

I didnt know there are both scholarship papers & LOI with different rules ?

Simple question... When can a "NCAA qualified" SENIOR recruit sign a LOI if they miss the "Spring signing period" ?

The answer is essentially they can't.  Read the Brandon Knight link to get more details.  You don't need to sign an LOI to attend/play at a school but most schools will insist you do as soon as possible as it ties you to the school and assures them that you won't be playing for anyone else the next year unless they choose to release you.  Just managing the process.  Similar to Bobby Hurley holding the LOI's and not sending them in for early commits, signing a scholarship package benefits the players in case of a coaching change or other influence that might make them change their mind but the schools prefer to hold the cards so they'll say sign an LOI or we're going to keep recruiting players at your position, unless of course you're Brandon Knight.
