Martin, Braica, and now CC. Norm's coaching tree is already longer than Louie's.

I knew nothing about the last staff. But this is what I saw from watching the games. Brainca and Singelton seemed like they were asleep during games. Casey only seemed to wake up if Norm got really upset at a bad call against us. During the next timeout he would continue the argument with the official. Q seemed like the most respected assitant coach spoke to players during the game and seemed like he had a coaching role. The GA atleast seemed to have some energy during the games. I am sure they worked during practice but that is what I saw.
I do have a few questions. Why is this our new staff so great? Again I know very little about 'these guys. But Childs was at Drexel not exactly the greatest program. If Dunlap is so great how come he doesn't have a job? Why didnt Norm hire better assistants? Was money involved? Was the last staff that bad?
Thanks

Casey was probably the best coach on the staff no joke.  Too bad he was 3rd assistant.

if u watched st johns basketball consistently the past 6 yrs you know why the last staff wasnt great...we've been complaining about many diff aspects of the team for years so no need to go through it all again...the new staff (with dunlap and hicks) is so great bc we have every base covered...someone for in game help, two people with good to great city connections, someone with good experience in player development, a former dobo just for video, and the slickness, lavin...and all these people are proven in what they do, or bring something real to the table...just keep your fingers crossed for dunlap and hicks

Re: Casey - you could see him on TV or live often trying to say things to Norm. Norm's response was to yell at something or yell "fiddlesticks!" or whatever he would exclaim.  At the DePaul games, my wife would ask, "does all that yelling help?" And I'd say "probably not."

Very true. Casey was always the first in Norm's ear at a timeout. Now I was never sure whether that was a good or bad thing. I do know that Norm was stubborn. I don't want to turn this into a bash Norm thing.

Good for Casey. I hope he gets the gig. Funny how Norm's assistants are all getting gigs.

Post could be a good gig since Cluess had them in the right direction.

Could be a nice starting point and maybe he gets a better job fairly quickly if he does well.

I think Pikiel ( spelling ? ) might get some good offers if he continues his path at stonybrook so maybe that slot opens in a year or 2.

Good luck Casey

And the best assistant of the world (Dunlap) is not.

I will then. What's the point of having a staff at all if you are too stubborn to listen to them? Norm is an idiot and dug his own grave.

Great obsevation Dave..    the bigger problem was that Norm would listen to Casey, then Bracica and maybe Q..  only then would he get to the players. By the time he got all the input, his head would be spinning and he would only have a short time to get any message to the team. The results coming out of time outs for this team speak for themselves.

We don't know exactly what pearls of wisdom the staff was doling out.  So let's not speculate on exactly what was happening - whether Norm was stubborn or whether the staff didn't have the best suggestions.

You're never going to make it as a sport writer on the internets if you don't learn to read people's minds. I suggest you start by making up rumors; if they're outlandish, cite anonymous sources. When in doubt, guess and add exclamation points. Next stop Pulitzer.

Thanks to your advice, I'm gonna make it after all, like Mary Tyler Moore.

Funny you should mention Mary, because I once had a THREESOME with MTM and Cloris Leachman, who played Phyllis Lindstrom, Mary's upstairs neighbor! (One of my sources told me that Ed Asner wanted in as well but I nixed that! Ew, gross!) It was a wild scene, Cloris would do anything, and I do mean anything! I was sore for a week!

I was not about what was being said but that everyone had input that was heard in a short period of time.

Wasn't Cloris Leachman about 60 when she was in The Last Picture Show? And that movie was release around 1969.

FWIW Cloris turned 84 last Friday - Happy Birthday.  I think Foad was hoping for, and apparently got, that whip wielding Young Frankenstein version of Ms. Leachman, ergo the pain.
