....There's no gray showing in his perfectly placed hair, but there are scientific explanations for that. It has been 14 years since the strangest confluence of circumstances promoted Lavin to the position of interim head coach at UCLA. He's no longer a "young coach." But he is a coach again, and he insists he'll be a better one.

"To be 46 as opposed to 32 — that's a dramatic difference," Lavin said. "You're going to approach things in a more diligent way."

It does not seem at all unfair to ask Lavin if the seven years he spent away from coaching, doing broadcast analysis on ESPN, allowed him the time to consider and correct whatever mistakes he made during his first run as a head coach.

Certainly there were mistakes, because one does not get fired from a position as prestigious as UCLA head basketball coach without bobbling a few grounders.

And many who watched Lavin teeter between prosperity and austerity for seven seasons — many regular-season misadventures followed by consistent NCAA Tournament success — believe the issues began with the absence of anyone on Lavin's staff with considerable experience or accomplishment....

Good writeup.  Lavin is so connected in the media now from his time at ESPN. I hope it helps put a spotlight on the program and we continue to get a favorable publicity.

I think this 2011 class is going to be incredible.

No doubt!  What a difference a couple of months can make.  Sky is truly the limit now, where as a few months ago,  10th place in the BE was the limit.

I'm curious what would satisfy the fans.
Top 10 class? 15? 25?

BTW, this kid from Chicago/MeanStreets/Perspectives will fly up the rankings.

He just got offered by Syracuse last week. He's not on top 150 list but damn he should.

Don't worry. He's going to be top 25 (conservatively) on Scout and HoopScoop. Rivals has the amazingly lazy Meyer-so who knows.
Anthony said he had a 3.8 GPA.

Impressive coordination and body control, but I'd have to see a lot more to see what type of athlete he is.  He looked kinda slow in the short video.  How tall is he?  Damn he's awkward looking!!

He's a very good athlete for a big. Mr. Konchalski thinks he'll be more of a 4 than a 5. Francis compared him to Marcus Camby. He's 6'10" in sneakers. He was at ND earlier this week for an unofficial.
