Billy Singleton to the Gauchos? [JohnnyJungle.com]

Billy Singleton is the new director of basketball operations of the New York Gauchos. Singleton will replace Maurice Hicks essentially making it an even swap. Read More

Good for Billy would be a nice job oppurtunity for him.  Hopefully this helps out St. John's with future recruiting.  A good move for all invovled.

Between Hicks and Singleton once the non-recruiting period is over I would imagine we should have our pick of players from the gauchos.  Hopefully Lavin was cordial to Singleton and Billy doesn't hold any grudges.

Everyone from the staff was wiped clean for maybe the exception of Oz Cross however that's a different situation (different positions/salaries). I think all parties should be pretty happy the way things turned out.

Marillac this isn't the high school prom. I think they all knows its a business.

I spoke with Billy today, wished him luck and told him it was great to work with him. He is a great guy, I'm happy for him

I'm willing to bet if it wasn't for his job at STJ in recent years he would have a chance at the Gauchos job.  As Dave said its a business.  If your theory held true in professional and college sports nobody (Players and Coachaes) would talk to eachother because everyone is replacing someone in such a small knit community.

He would not have gotten the job without's Mo's blessing. I doubt Billy screws his alma mater.

This is where the graceful handling of Norm & staffs firing will help us.  SJU let him and his staff go in a very respectful and graceful way, and because of that I would think we are still in Billy Singleton's good graces. 

Some people blasted the University for not firing him before the season was over or not coming down hard enough on Norm, and now you see why it's such a good thing that the University handled it with class.  I really don't think we've burned bridges with Billy Singleton.
