Wow, this guy is exactly what we needed. I would say I can't believe this but Lavin has been so good that I have fully expected Pelle to come here ever since he said he was going to visit us.

We needed a big man and Pelle is a great fit in Lavin's running system.

Fresh off Wednesday’s bonanza recruiting haul, St. John’s got its biggest commitment in the Steve Lavin Era when prep center/power forward Norvel Pelle of Compton verbally committed to the Red Storm on Thursday.

St. John’s now has the coveted big man to complement the four wings and one combo guard who previously committed.

-----------------------

With the lack of quality big men in college basketball, securing Pelle is a major coup. He is a unique young man; in addition to basketball, he is seriously interested in art.

Per Neal Nieves.... It's from a few days ago.

Heard St Johns Commit Norvel Pelle will not be playing with Price High School for the Pasadena Tournament. No Word on why yet

Here is a piece on the situation, per the LA Times....

Los Angeles Price center Norvel Pelle won't be playing until late next month, Coach Michael Lynch said. Pelle and Lynch are working out some team issues.

The 6-foot-9 Pelle sat out last season after transferring from Compton Dominguez. He signed with St. John's.

Pelle finished up with only 6 points before being ejected....

In perhaps the most exciting game in the first round of the Oaks Christian Tournament on Monday, Los Angeles Price rallied from an 11-point halftime deficit to defeat Palisades, 61-57. Jamie Trujeque sank two free throws with 10 seconds left to clinch the victory.

The Knights (8-2) were led by Skylar Spencer's 23 points and won despite only six points by St. John's-bound senior Norvel Pelle, who was ejected with 4:38 left in the fourth quarter after having words with Palisades' Khalil Johnson.

Adam Griffin scored 15 points and four steals for the Dolphins (6-8), who led 33-22 at halftime and clung to a one-point lead after three quarters before succumbing to the defending Division IV state champions.

Price takes on Sacramento in the quarterfinals at 5:30 p.m. and Palisades tips off against Ontario Colony at 11:30 a.m. today.

Price had seven dunks, five by Pelle, who finished with 20 points, eight rebounds and four blocks. Spencer had eight points, four blocks and one dunk. Lutheran's Bruce English had two crowd-pleasing dunks among his team-leading 19 points.
