Gauchos and Rice players
« on: June 08, 2010, 08:55:01 AM »
It seems the staff has been keeping tabs on a few Rice and Gaucho players(Sanders, Nunez, Harkless...).  Does the staff plan on challenging the NCAA rule or are they just keeping options open if a staff spot opens up for Mo next year?

The way I read the rule...no class of 2010 or 2011 players could come here if Hicks remains at DOBO.

As I see it, yes.

How is it determined what program a player is part of..?

This rule will end up being set aside when either a school or player challenges the ruling in court.

Excellent point.  But that kid risks losing up to a year in a slow-moving court battle, like Renardo Sidney at Miss. State, though his issue was different.  A more apt comparison might be Deniz Kilicli, but his problem was also monetary...

I think it'll be hard to say a whole host of NYC-area players didn't have some "contact" with Mo Hicks; and I don't know how well the records of who is running with which AAU team is actually kept.

I would say 75% of the local AAU events are not officially sanctioned by AAU.

When an AAU team wants to enter the Nationals, they have to make sure very player that is playing with them is registered with AAU and affiliated with their team. No player is allowed to play for 2 teams in the AAU Nationals. Maybe the NCAA plans on uaing that data base to determine where a player "belongs"

AAU is not going anywhere and is a much bigger organization than just youth basketball.
