Not a long shot at all

This is purely an educated guess, but I believe that Sampson is a long shot now.

Pelle- Is resigned, but can he qualify this time?
Garrett- Is resigned, but can he qualify this time?

Gathers- St. John's still leads, but it has to be concerning that he didn't sign with SJU this past week and has de-committed.

That leaves (3) more available scholarships to give for the 2012 class and/or 2013 class.  WHO ARE THE CURRENT POSSIBILITIES?  I know we need at least (1) Center, (1) PF and one other Forward or Wing player.

If they have 3 ships, we need 3 big men. They don't all have to centers, but there is no room for another guard/wing.
And it would show a real lack of planning of if we did add another player that we don't need.

We've been out rebounded by W&M, Lehigh and UMBC. We need big men.

We were outrebounded by a lot of teams last year.  Still got so far.

What is the rebounding margin?  I put more stock in that than if we were losing 31-29 on the boards.

Just an fyi, but Pelle DE-committed.   And many posters are saying we may not pursue him any further.  Regardless of if his grades come through.

I'd still take Jakarr in a heartbeat.  He's a 6'9" combo forward who is a very good rebounder and could easily play several front court spots for us.  I hope he's still on our radar and we on his.  Big fan of his game.  He'd be a great addition and I'm pretty sure the staff isn't just moving on from him totally unless he has totally ruled us out, which I doubt.  I wasn't happy about him decommiting, but at least he did it right away and didn't play games like Norvel.

It's great to be in a position to not have to sweat these kids no matter their behavior and maturity.
If he gets it together, then fine. If not, oh well.

They were in the mix last season, as well.  Unless, you have a sneaky suspicion Baylor will not play by the rule$ this time around.

Actually, one of my best friends' has been away in Afghanistan for the past year (he's a big G'town fan).  He'll be home in a couple of weeks and we're supposedly planning on coming up for the Johnnies game versus G'town.

I'll keep you informed.

And Baylor was in the mix for D'Angelo Harrison and he was a Texas kid.

#stjbb coach Steve Lavin just walked in the gym to watch JaKarr Sampson and Brewster

Good to see Coach is still keeping in touch.

We luv you JaKarr and will welcome you back with open arms. You were part of the St J's family and can be again. You and the Johnnies can accomplish great things together. Good luck this season and hope to see you in red at Carnessecca and the Garden. :) :) :)

Jakarr, this team with you, Amir, Darrick and Ricardo next year would be a top 10 team. MSG would be rocking.

Per scout from the NPS:

Jakarr Sampson, PF/SF, Brewster – From an athletic standpoint there aren’t many guys that can compare. The 6-foot-7, 195-pound combo forward runs the floor extremely well and was among the top leapers that stepped on to the court all day. He scored quite a few buckets in the paint and attacked from the high post every opportunity he had.

Jakarr did an interview as well with Evan Daniels.  Says he is wide open but says Lavin has been showing him a lot of love:

Jakkar out there with Mo and/or Pelle at once would be so fun to watch.

Sampson, more than anyone other recruit, is made for the St. John's system.  He'd be able to flash so much versatility on defense, guarding bigs and guards, as well as doing it all on offense.
