Kind of suprised we made his list.  Out of the Soldiers I thought we had worst chance with him.  I guess with these west coast kids a lot of it will come down to how willing are they to leave for the big city.

Honestly, I'm also a bit surprised we made Brown's final seven, as well.  I'm not complaining at all!  Just a tad surprised.  LOL

Once again, if we can get him to take an official visit then I'd feel even better about our chances to sign him.

Brown is one of several West Coast players actively considering St. John’s, along with Mesa (Az.) point guard Jahii Carson and Henderson (Nev.) Findlay Prep wing Amir Garrett.

“I still like St. John’s, still like [head coach Steve] Lavin,” Brown said.

“He’s a guy who’s coached at he top level before, at UCLA. He has a pretty open style and he has gotten a few guys to the league.”

Brown said he hopes to decide “before the early signing period” ends in November.

I don´t understand the use of the word "still".

Per Rivals (via fordham on Redmen.com)....

Per Rivals.com today, SJU in final 7: Washington, Connecticut, Georgia Tech, Oregon, DePaul, Cal and St. John's.

Connecticut and St. John's have moved up for Brown, who said he likes UConn's tradition and that first-year St. John's coach Steve Lavin is recruiting a lot of West Coast talent. That might not help land Brown but it's noticeable that Lavin is trying to use his former ties while at UCLA to bring some players to his new club.

Brown also said, "With St. John's, it's a great program and coach Lavin is a guy that has helped players go to the league. He is going after a lot of West Coast players."

David said no home visits have yet been planned with St. John’s or UConn and that he’s been playing “phone tag” with Johnnies coach Steve Lavin.

Hopefully, at some point, Lavin and Jabari's father will converse and the Johnnies receive an in-home visit.

#2 Jabari Brown

School: Oakland High School
Position: Shooting Guard

Height: 6'4
Weight: 200 pounds

Schools Considering: St. Johns, Cal, Washington, UConn, Georgia Tech

Jabari Brown has breathtaking ability on the basketball court. His combination of physical tools and developed basketball skill is extremely rare for this level. Most importantly, Jabari knows how to use his physical gifts to compliment his basketball skill, something it sometimes takes years for players to understand.

Lavin should go meet him at the airport on Sunday to make a pitch in advance of the home visit. Or better yet, have him down for an unofficial immediately after leaving UConn.

Hopefully, Lavin can convince Brown into taking an official visit after the in-home visit on Thursday.

That would be against the rules :)

http://www.zagsblog.com/2010/09/25/jabari-brown-down-to-5-schools/

Jabari Brown, the No. 5 shooting guard in the nation out of Oakland, is down to five schools.

The 6-foot-5 Brown is considering Washington, UConn, Arizona State, Georgia Tech and Oregon, he confirmed Saturday by text.

Brown has already visited Washington and is currently on an official to UConn.

He hits Arizona State Tuesday, Oregon Oct. 2 and Georgia Tech Oct. 10.

“I just want to see everywhere,” Brown told the esteemed Mike Anthony of the Hartford Courant during his visit. “Every school I could see myself going to, I just have to be able to actually go out there and experience what life would be like.”
He added: “It’s just going to be the place where I can improve as a player and have a chance to go to the NBA, and [also] a place where I have a chance to win a national championship.”

As for the UConn visit, Brown told Anthony:

“I know [UConn] has great guards, a lot of great players, big men. I think I would definitely fit in with their style of play.”

He spent time with head coach Jim Calhoun before UConn’s game with Buffalo.

“He’s just telling me how much they want me here and he feels I would be a great fit for the program. I definitely feel a level of comfort with Coach Calhoun and what he’s all about.”

Did Lavin have an in-home with this kid?  If so, I find it hard to believe we can't slip back onto his list.

It seems he's eliminated us and the backyard team, Cal.  So, I wouldn't expect the home visit to take place this week.
