I'm looking at Steve Lavin right now.
He arrived this afternoon and has been talking with Rodney Tention and the ever ethical Josh Pastner.
The game that he's near is Indiana Elite/KC Pump N Run.
Who's Lavs watching?
Do tell re: Pastner/ethics. How does he compare to Cal?
In that game, I think he was just getting his feet wet, but Indiana Elite 17s and 16s attract a lot of attention these days. Off the seventeens, I hear Yogi Ferrell's parents want him to go to a Catholic school and love ND, Cody Zeller, the team's star, is looking hard at Indiana and Butler (w/ UNC as a darkhorse), and Plumlee is likely to decide very, very soon. The 16s have D'Vauntes Smith-Rivera, who was contemplating coming to St.B's, but is out with a knee injury, Hanner Parea [the most talented and nasty (in a good way) of several African transplants, who wants to go to an Adidas school (IU or Baylor likely), 7' Peter Jurkin, etc. IU has literally offered half of the 16s and employed the Indiana Elite director's son, Drew Adams, who helped import at least 6 Africans, as a means of getting talent off of both squads. Crean got his son in before the Indianapolis-based NCAA officially cracked down on such arrangements.
Lavin was later watching more intently Dallas Mustangs [LeBryan Nash (great talent, but an almost Lance Stephensonesque attitude), Keaton Miles (borderline top 100 wing)] against the Urban DFW Stars later along with almost every Big XII coach and a bearded Matt Doherty.
I'm now over in Cleveland at the LeBron James Capital City Classic. If I run across any STJ or Iona coaches, I'll be sure to pass them along.
This is the preliminary roster:
