Mike Perez NOT to St. John's
« on: July 14, 2010, 04:31:49 PM »
Per a very reliable source....  Perez has not been offered nor committed to St.John's.  I was also told, "He's an intriguing recruit, but the the staff only saw him once before he injured his ankle."  I'll try to give more info later.

"intriguing" has been the word that has been tossed around by multiple sources that I've talked to. Interesting.

We've got a number of people with quotes that he was at least offered, and now he's not offered?  Ah, the summer recruit.  You never know what goes on with him.

Glad to hear this.  I bet this was a mis-communication  between the 2 sides.  I would mind this kid walking on at STJ but dont think he warrants a schollie.  Thanks for the update MJ keep us all in the know.

Groan.  Hate to see Tony Wroten's name in there.  That guy loves the sound of his (Twitter) voice.  Is he even that good?  He's going to choose Kentucky over Washington and Huskies' fans are going to start sending militias to Lexington.

I don't hate to see Wroten's name in there, but I understand where you're coming from peter.  He does seem love to hear himself and his list seems to have a handful of different schools involved whenever he lists his schools.

I watched him last summer at the Peach Jam and I came away with so-so reviews.  He wasn't really hitting his jumpers (a part of his game that needs work), but he was making nifty passes and getting his teammates involved.

He's a big, point guard, who defends fairly well and can make things happen for his teammates (a very, solid passer).  He needs some work on his jumper, but he is definitely a high-major player.  Maybe, a tad overrated at one juncture, but high-major, nonetheless.

Well in all fairness to him he was pretty quiet before he tore his ACL. Also no one loves their own voice more than Jabari. That kid's twitter is always going off. Wroten was much more highly regarded before his injury.

Since Jabari won't be coming to Queens I can ignore it more!  He and Kyle Anderson also have a very special Twitter relationship.  Too much talk about girls.  Damn, I'm old.

Yeah.  The kids who just seem to love the attention and getting schools on their list... makes me feel like the staff is embarking on a wild goose chase and there are a LOT of slots that need filling.  Then again, high maintenance high major big guard?  If he can just stay in questionable shape, he's Baron Davis (I openly admit - I never loved his game, even at UCLA).

I wouldn't count Brown out, as not coming to Queens, so quickly.  Chances are he may not come, but too quick to he's not.

As, far as Baron Davis's game at UCLA....  I guess I didn't think too much of it.  lol

Speaking, of "tweeting...."   Here is what John Stovall of ESPN recruiting had to say about it.

In this age of social networking and electronic communication many players subscribe to Facebook, Twitter, MySpace and other mediums. Parents should definitely monitor what there child is "tweeting" and putting on these sites, though. Players should also be careful what they place on them and think before doing so. The sites are being monitored by both media and coaches. Some of the material being shared is not good for the player's image, and in this world perception is often reality.

I believe some of us talked about this during Omari Lawrence's situation at St. John's.  I also agree with Stovall.

He belongs with a Calipari. He gets a lot of it from his mother. As for his game, other kids have caught up to him physically at the top of his class and he didn't develop his game as much as he should have. Konchalski agreed.

Quinn told me the two guys he was closest to on the U-17 team were Teague, who is another knucklehead, and Wroten. They were called the Three Muskateers over in Germany.

The NCAA is also all over Twitter and Facebook so both kid's and schools and their fans need to be careful.

That's the impression I've gotten.
