A stupid question?

Now let me try to get this right. We hire a DOBO who cant bring any of his players from the AAU or his High School teams. So now, will any of the Gaucho or Rice players 3 years from now have any idea who Mo Hicks is and will him being hired help us then? Will he have any pull?

The answer to your query is YES. I believe the hiring of Mo Hicks will pay dividends to the program for years to some.

3 years? More like 1.

It's 2010 and we're recruiting for the 2011 class. His players in the 2012 class will be eligible to come to St. John's.

 I thought it was 2 years he wasnt allowed to bring in any of his  players? So that would mean kids going into their sophomore year of HS are ok to be recruited by St Johns? And if thats the case, do those kids have any loyalty to Hicks? Stupid questions I know, but I want to figure out this rule

This isn't some pipeline deal. Moe Hicks built the Gauchos into one of the most revered AAU programs in the country. I think what he did there translates into what he can do here. He's obviously a smart man, knows basketball, and has mastered the AAU world.

It's two graduating classes.  So 2010 and 2010.  We lose a chance at Jack, Sanders and to a lesser extent Nunez.  Then the box is open again for Calhoun and Jevon.

Additionally, he knows lots, one would assume, about up and coming players, knows the city coaches well; and he's supposed to be a solid teaching/ development coach as well - so if one of the current coaches moves on, he can move up.

The Gauchos have been the top AAU program in the city arguably.  If you had a kid playing ball you wanted to send him there.  Everyone knew of the Chos and Hicks.  So just having him around will pay dividends and associate STJ with top flight basketball and staff.

i would have to say that if we are relying solely on hicks pull in the future we are not where we want to be...and other than that, i agree with Dave...he's here b/c hes both qualified for the position and has pull, not just b/c he has pull

Moe Hicks is an extremely knowledgable basketball guy --- even with NO connections he'd be a solid add to the staff.  Add his ties to the Gauchos and Rice in, and he's a GREAT get.
