For a player who a couple of weeks ago literally had zero offers, Nichols' cup hath runneth over. According to Coach Anderson, Nichols now holds offers from "Hofstra, Drexel, Manhattan, Rutgers, Wagner and L.I.U." That along with interest from "St. John's, Xavier, East Carolina, Fordham, South Florida and Stonybrook." Anderson says that other schools are coming back with their head coaches before making offers.

Yes maybe he is.  But nothing wrong with the staff keeping eye on locals and especially letting the locals see their faces.

Saw this in a Post article:


Another coach in attendance said he was most impressed by forwards Leroy (Truck) Fludd and Malik Nichols. Fludd, the coach said, displayed a much improved perimeter jump shot, which if consistent, the coach said, would “take his recruitment to the next level.” But the player that truly caught his eye was Nichols, a versatile 6-foot-5 senior that can finish with each hand.

“I think people are going to walk into the gym talking about Mike Taylor and leave talking about Malik,” the coach said. “He defends, he scores, he can get to the basket, he can shoot it. He’s really good.”


Remember guys, we're gonna need more than just top 75 players.

Exactly, in a class of possibly 10 guys you need a couple glue guys.  Guys that will work hard in practice and be able to provide spot minutes when needed.  Not every recruit has to be able to step in and play from day 1.  The difference is under Norm the only guys we were getting was this type of player.

We've had this type of recruit for 6 years now. The difference is, Roberts was so rarely able to spot the diamond in the rough that we really only had one sleeper recruit during his time here.

If Lavin can another Truck Bryant of course I hope he goes for it.

As a result, some new schools are in the mix. St. John’s and South Florida are showing interest, while Hofstra is hanging around.

—According to Nichols he has been receiving interest from St. John’s, Towson, South Florida, and Hofstra, where he was once verbally committed to before opting to prep a year. At this point his top priority is clearing up some academic issues and if he is able to do that the list of suitors should expand exponentially.
