He will wind up being much higher when it's all said and done.   FWIW we will wind up in his top 2 because his mother loves Lavin.  We have backed off of Carrington and put the full court press on Whitehead now.  I thought for sure he was gone but this should make everyone really happy.  Tiny holds zero weight on this one and if his mom wants to see him play every game he will wind up a Johnnie  :)

Louisville and SJU I heard Happy.

Going to be a dog fight.

Grest to hear we are pressing hard for Whitehead.  One thing besides the mother that we have going for us is that Louisville is loaded at guard and still recruiting more.  They have some guards on the roster and bring in JC pg Jones this season as well as signed Terry Rozier and Anton Gill.  In addition they signed Quentin Snyder for 14'.  A lot of top notch guards for Whitehead to compete with.  At SJU, Whitehead will likely step in right away.  Guy feeling is Lavin will land him.  Let's hope that is the case.

We're pretty stocked up at the guard spot too.

All of guards will all be either seniors or have left already.  All of Louisville's guards are coming in in 13' and 14' and all gamers.  Whitehead will be playing right away next to Rysheed should he come here.

This kid is good but is he good enough to push a senior deangelo Harrison to the bench?

Yes
You forreal moose? D'lo is a nut case but talent is something he dosent lack, just needs a better supporting cast

As President of the Harrison fan club my comment is pretty telling.

Absurd to say this kid or any other freshman would push a senior Harrison for minutes.

Absurd?  Save the dramatics.  Plenty of upperclassmen are pushed out by freshman of Whiteheads caliber.  If you disagree thats fine and dandy but to say its absurd?  Bit much.

You're talking Steve Lavin coaching here.   Baron Davis and Earl Watson (frosh starters at guard) forced Senior Toby Bailey (you know, frosh SG who scored 26 in the 1995 NCAA title win)  to move to small forward, even tho he'd led the Bruins in assists and was 2nd in scoring as a Junior, taking them to the Elite 8.   And Toby finished his career that year as UCLA 4th all time leading scorer, and 6th all time in assists (and thanks to the move to forward as a senior, 17th in rebounding) - that was 15 years ago - he's STILL #5 in scoring, #8 in assists, and top 20 (#19) in Rebounding in the UCLA record books.

Lavin has no qualms moving a senior around to make way for a better frosh.  And it should be noted, Toby Bailey had his best overall year AS a senior  - 17.9 pts, 5.9 rebs. 4.1 assists - very DJ Kennedy-ish - whom Lavin ALSO moved as a senior - tho not for a frosh (but to give Hardy, who had 2 starts as a Jr, 33 as a Sr)...

Unfortunately, there is only one position on the court that DLo is equipped to play...2G.

Only on JJ, can we get positive news about a recruit & then quibble about if he starts or not. Let's beat out Pitino for Whitehead first.

He'll owe his place in the SJU record books in large part to the opportunities he's been given.   How many players in SJU history have gotten 35+mins from the jump?  How many have gotten 14+ shot attempts as freshmen and sophomores?   He had a green light from the day he walked in the door, and this past season he showed me he was much more of a volume shooter than the efficient scorer we'd like him to be.
And this past season wasn't just a result of seeing double teams and having a poor cast around him; his free throw shooting dropped to 76% too.
Everyone on this list except Berry and (possibly Postell, I don’t recall) were 4 year starters
 Chris Mullin    2440
 Malik Sealy    2401
 Felipe Lopez    1927
 Zendon Hamilton    1810
 D.J. Kennedy    1504
 David Russell    1441
 Anthony Glover    1434
 Lavor Postell    1427
 Walter Berry    1424
 Willie Glass
I generally agree with your take on Harrison's game, so this is admittedly drawing a fine distinction over a somewhat inconsequential point; but just because Harrison's numbers will likely place him in the top 3 scorers in SJU history, I don't think it's clear that he's an equivalent offensive player to those guys.  And of course he still has half his college career left ahead of him, so my perception of him could very well change.  But, in their first two seasons here's how many shots those guys took:

Harrison 834
Mullin 723
Sealy 765
Felipe 788

And it's not as if Harrison has played in more games; because those guys made the postseason, and he was suspend, so Mullin and Sealy actually played in 4 or 5 more games, and Harrison still has taken a ton more shots than they did.

It's not accurate to say he's had a green light since he's been at St Johns... he's been on an open road without any intersections or a posted speed limit.  Doesn't mean he's not good, just that taking his total points in isolation doesn't provide a full picture.

I didn't say he was an equivalent player to Mullin and Sealy, that would have been crazy. I said in two years when he'll have scored more points than anyone except two of the best players in SJ history - he's at 1200 already - it's unlikely that he'd be benched in favor of some kid who's currently in high school. If in two when years Lavin has 5 seniors he starts his freshman he's even stupider than I credit him with being and believe me I think he's an imbecile.

Say it ain't so Moose! you may be asked to resign or be impeached.  :)  Anyway as we may be thin up front a 3 guard alignment would not be out of the question.

“@jimhalley: Five things we learned at the NBA Top 100 camp, with lede note on Isiah Whitehead (@Isaiah_W15): http://www.usatodayhss.com/news/article/5-things-we-learned-thursday-at-the-nba-top-100-camp

1. Lincoln is the land of guards. Lincoln (Brooklyn) guard Isaiah Whitehead, an elite 2014 recruit, quickly established himself at the camp with his court vision and fast pace. He's following a proud tradition at his school, which has produced NBA guards Sebastian Telfair, Lance Stephenson, Jr., and Stephon Marbury.

"It's the coach, definitely, because he was a point guard himself," said Whitehead of Lincoln coach Dwayne "Tiny" Morton's propensity to produce point guards. "He's showed me the screen and roll and everything."

Whitehead averaged 22 points, eight rebounds and five assists a game while leading the Railsplitters to a Public Schools Athletic League AA championship this past season. Though he's considered a combo guard, his future may be at the point because he's big enough at 6-4 to fend off opposing defenders and has great anticipation.

"I can see plays ahead of time, where players are about to go and how a player is about to defend me," Whitehead said. "I don't think all these other guys here have been taught the same way I have."l

"CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. Many of the nation's top players were back on the floor Thursday night for the second session of the 2013 NBPA Top 100 Camp. Five-star guard Isaiah Whitehead picked up where he left off in the day's first session, while future Florida Gator Chris Chiozza showed how his skill and quickness offset his lack of size.

Whitehead plays with purpose

If anybody in the John Paul Jones Arena looked like they had a little extra bounce in their step on Thursday it was five-star combo guard Isaiah Whitehead. Despite a No. 19 national ranking and plenty of exposure at Brooklyn (N.Y.) Lincoln, the 6-foot-4 rising senior doesn't get a lot of pub.

Isaiah Whitehead seemed to have an extra bounce in his step Thursday night.
Thanks to his play in Charlottesville, Whitehead has put himself into the national spotlight.

After a strong performance in the day's early session, Whitehead was locked and loaded during the evening session. A power scorer who can put the ball on the floor, his jumper was clicking and he did a great job of mixing strong drives with good passes and aggressive defense.

Whitehead has listed programs such as Kentucky, Arizona, Syracuse, Louisville, Kansas, St. John's, Rutgers, Auburn, among others."
