While the entire scenario makes me sick to my stomach, there is one thing you have to realize.  If Seton Hall has a monster class and in two or three years from now they beat us head to head, nobody in the basketball world will give a damn how they did  it or if Tiny Morton is on staff etc, just like everyone overlooked Danny Manning's father on the Kansas staff, they will just see them as the dominate program in the area, and that's bad news.  If Lavin intends to have a national program, to eventually compete for a national championship then, A. He better bring in some 5 star kids and B. he better be the big boy in his own neighborhood. In terms of recruiting, no matter which way you look at it, the  results have not been promising as of late.

For those who believe that Lavin will still bring in a few quality bigs this recruiting season, who is left that we are involved with to bring in? I would seriously like to know what bigs we are involved with and have a decent shot of getting. And I don't mean the kids we are competing with mid majors for.

If Seton Hall lands another top 15 player, in 2014-2015, they'll still suck. There's no one else in that program who can play at a high major D1 level. As far as what bigs we have coming in, why is that a pressing need? We have two underclassmen in Obekpa and Sampson. Who the hell cares who Lavin is looking at? One of the best parts of having him here is that a punk from Lincoln is told no. It's the name on the front, not the back. F Lincoln

Agree with the punk from Lincoln part.  Funny thing is that IW was described as a quiet and un assuming kid.  Didn't sound like it to me when he wanted to be the face of the program. Unreal.  However in terms of bigs, Sanchez leaves, Gift leaves and Sampson with a good year could leave and then what?

Linda, we have far FAR outrecruited Seton Hall. We are already the big boys in our own neighborhood.  Of course, this is a HUGE year to show that these recruiting classes we brought in will come to fruition, but I disagree with your line of thinking.  We HAVE beat out the big boys for many of our recruits.

We start Obekpa, Jones, Pointer, Harrison & Jordan. A sweet 16 team. Maybe better. Not every player has to be a top rated recruit. Bring me a Mitchell Foster, and I'll be more than content. Lavin is building a program, and you don't do that by sending a message to NY that you'll happily bow down to an 18 year old.

I like Sampson, and think he has a chance to be a pro one day, in a league somewhere, but he's a tweener. And he's not going to the NBA because he doesn't have a position.

Important thing to remember about Whitehead is he is very likely a one or two and done player.  SHU will be terrible his first year., and SJU will be Final Four caliber. They could be decent his second year perhaps better than us unless all our guys stay.

.

SJU re-entered the picture and it was SJU all the way thru Thursday morning.  Then as kob said SHU said "f it" and decided to go all in essentially promising Morton a job down the road to get Whitehead.  WIth SJU failing to match that was it.

All things being equal it was SJU period.  .

So the definition of saying F it, and going all in, is SHU saying "OK, here's what we're willing to do...maybe, possibly, someday, if a spot opens up next year, when you may or may not still be here, we'll hire your coach"? And that's enough to change someone's mind?

Come on man.
Its just a verbal, and hence not offical, so if SHU doesn't deliver on their end of the bargain, he can re-open his recruitment
If IW is smart, he doesn't sign LOI in Nov, and waits until spring so the move can flesh out by the end of the '13-'14 season.

And in his own words said he wanted to be the star and from  the sound of it didn't want to compete for pt, not exactly what expect from a kid who is a "can't miss"

That is good to hear kob.  We could go on and on about this, but the ultimate conclusion is that IW will be the one to live with his choice for better or worse.  He may come to regret it, but then again, his experience at SHU might wind up being exactly what he wanted, not what we or even SHU fans wanted.

As long as anybody can accept the choices they make for themselves in life, and be at peace with it, that is all that matters at the end of the day (or looking back at the end of our lives).

Problem is that he doesn't come across as such to the public eye KOB, including his HS coach in the deal.  Its a punk move which is why other big programs dropped him and Morton.  Other programs didn't want to deal with him forcing Morton down their throats and making those sorts of absurd demands.    The "face of the program" comments come across like Keyshawn's "gimme the damn ball", without regards for a team concept that basket ball requires.  Everything surrounding his recruitment screams "punk".  Have a hard time believing different.

He  is certainly going to be the face of the program. As it stands now, next season Seton Hall looks like they are going be in a position like we were in 11-12. Young talented recruits, but no leadership, depth or experience. If a freshman shows up and has a "gimme the damn ball" attitude, he's not going to build relationships with his teammates. They are going to resent him unless he's exceptional. In the BE, Iverson and Anthony. Those are the only two that I can think of we awesome from day 1. Whitehead could be Ray Allen, but he's just one guy.

Things could change, Seton Hall could find a couple of sleepers players on their roster. From the looks of things, based on what I saw last year, the player who had the most potential to become an all league guy left for greener pastures at Illinois. Willard came from Iona. Groce from Ohio. Take a gander at who Groce has added so far.

I'm not sure Seton Hall will be anywhere near SJU in 11/12 if Delgado doesn't qualify like many predict.  They wont have all that much talent, and almost none in the frontcourt.  They'll have a few decent sg's but the same problems.  We'll see what they put together. Willard has sold out and hired 3 coaches to get players already.  Not much more wiggle room.

Guys - I agree with the fact that Willard sold out here but he didn't hire Fred Hill to secure a commitment from Jaren Sina and anyone who claims that he did just doesn't know they are talking about.

Fred Hill is also a good recruiter, no doubt. He sold out with Antigua/Morton.  Sina was just a bonus.

Say Delgado does qualify. He'll be a freshman. Who else they got?
