Isaiah Whitehead experienced a first Sunday night and for once, the Coney Island phenom wasn’t thrilled with the result.

Lincoln’s 6-foot-4 freshman was left off the 2001 USA 16U National Team after five days of workouts in Colorado Springs, Colo. Coaches Don Showalter, Rich Gray and Mike Jones plus an additional seven-person committee selected 12 players out of the developmental camp’s 27 who will compete this month in the FIBA Americas U16 Championship in Cancun, Mexico.

“It made me feel upset, but not that upset,” said Whitehead, who has already picked up scholarship offers from North Carolina, St. John’s, USC, Pittsburgh and Syracuse. “I can still make the team in October.”

It's splitting straws but he also said he improved every practice.  Not flattering to me would be the knocks that Lance got when McKillop left him off the US team.  But if we over analyze the word flattering we might have a second coming of the unflappable debate

Whitehead has superior size and athleticism for his age. He doesn't have the killer instinct and often turns it on only when needed. I've been waiting to see him be more challenged.

USA national team is a pretty good challenge, tho. Great to see him on there; hopefully it lights a fire under him, a killer instinct.

Booksnball mentioned earlier in this thread that he is aoutstanding student, that is great to hear but why in the world is the kid in Lincoln then, its one of THE worst public schools in the city.

While he scored at the rim a handful of times, Whitehead did majority of his damage from mid-range. He used low, but quick dribbles to lead into mid-range shots and knocked down five shots from 15 to 18-feet. He’s one of the better guards in the 2014 class.

Isaiah Whitead has early college interest from UCLA, Miami, North Carolina, St. John’s, Pittsburgh and South Carolina.

I'd like to see SU fall as much as the next guy, but if these two guys are lying, and I think they are, they will have ruined an innocent man's life, and they should pay for it with theirs.
