Sean Evans?

With this coaching change, Evan's role has been diminished from an almost certain starter to a couple minutes a game if hes lucky (some games he doesnt get in at all). What your thoughts? Is this good or bad for the program this year? Will his role increase when we start playing "bigger" big east teams, or will burrell/coker/brownlee/polee continue to see increased pt?

He's playing as much as he deserves to play. He improved from his freshman to his soph year, but then regressed last year big time.

The less he plays the better St.Johns is.  We have been winning because he doesn't see the floor and make terrible decisions.

Im sure Evans is a good guy but as player he stinks. We are way better with him playing only when Burrell or Brownlee get in early foul trouble. He is a big body and thats about it. We will be fine with just Burrell, Brownlee and Coker because they are all playing good and staying within themselves.

I'm sure there will be times we will need him this year.  Foul trouble/injuries/matchups but the best players are on the floor right now and that's good for St. John's.

I agree, the less Evans plays the better.  In the first half, he had an opportunity to put us up 7 i think after an offensive rebound.  He missed an easy put back and then Georgetown came down and hit a basket.  A four point swing.  If he plays early, not a bad thing but this kid can not see quality minutes.

I was 100% wrong about playing Evans over Coker. I would much rather Coker stand around fouling people then watching Evans do bad Sean things. Actually Lavin needs to stop his random playing time altogether. I am pretty sure Evans plus minis this season is -376

I know Evans has been terrible, but I do hope that at some point he is able to contribute.

Obviously, it's hard for him to get into any kind of rhythm because he knows the leash is so short.

But we lost Burrell to fouls today, and it will probably happen again at some. Hopefully Sean doesn't quit, and maybe he'll find away to help out.

He gave us three minutes in the first half and did all you can ask him to do.  G'town was in the bonus and he didn't foul anyone.  He held his ground, got a board, and had two good closeouts defensively.

Justin needs to be on the court as much as possible, but he's been in really bad foul trouble.  They were just tossing Polee around tonight and we were getting destroyed on the boards when Polee was in--the kid just doesn't box out.

But that happens sometimes. Burrell has to react better, reach less with his hands... he could have been called for a couple more fouls if the officiating was more ticky-tack. Polee needs to build strength. Coker needs to be more effective, but I like his size and what the team is doing in playing him a bit each half.

Burrell coming off the bench is a smart move. He'd foul out every game if he started. Coker hacking it up early is actually a good thing.

I wish I could see improvement in Evans.  If he was practicing well and "getting with the program", I am sure his minutes would go up as the coach does want to win.  Last night he did not screw up when he had to replace Burrell with 4 minutes to go in 1st half and the coaches rewarded him with second half start.  They will play him if he can get it done.  That said, last night he missed an easy lay in which showed he has no touch around the basket.  he also missed the front end of a 1 and 1.  he is shooting under 50% FT's which is not acceptable and can only cost us games with him out there; teams will "hack a Shaq" him and we will end up with a non productive offensive possession.

I agree with others that Coker should get the start with Burrell coming in at the 16 minute mark as it extends Justin's time on the floor.  Hopefully he and the coaches observe how the game is being called and that will help him avoid silly fouls.

Lets not pick on Sean.  He is giving 100% when he is in.  He is representing SJU with class.
Some players games get better as they progress through college... some stay the same

We know the reason we are better this year is (besides HARDY !!)
 that Brownlee has improved and taken Seans minutes.
(Polee has basically taken Mason's minutes)

But I think he does not deserve a DNP. Keep him a small part of the rotation.
He will respond better when called upon if he gets some(5-10) minutes every game
