Transfer Possibility? (ALL SPECULATION, about Devoe Joseph)
« on: January 04, 2011, 11:12:08 AM »
Devoe Joseph - who had St. John's on his list when he was being recruited - is leaving Tubby Smith's Minnesota team: http://www.startribune.com/sports/gophers/blogs/112868399.html?elr=KArksi8cyaiUjc8LDyi_47cQiU47cQU17cQ_bDaEP7U

For all we know, he might be a world-class knucklehead.  But he is a scoring combo guard... and St. John's has a scholarship now that Quincy Roberts has left... just saying.  (Granted, he may replicate a lot of Nuri Lindsey and D'Angelo Harrison's skills, but I wanted to put this idea out there.)

His game is similar to Hardy, but at this point do we need a guy that couldn't hack it at Minnesota as an athlete?

He won't be eligible until next Jan at the earliest, and we have Harrison, Lindsey, Pointer and Harkless.

What's Joseph's problem?

He's got some talent and has gotten minutes after his suspension.  He's a junior though.  Can he be eligible next spring(he played as recently as 12/31)?  What's the rule as long as you don't play a game after the second semester starts?
When you're a kid from New York and you do it in New York, that lasts forever!

I'll pass, as he'll be a senior and we could use his scholarship on someone like Phil Greene.  Not to mention, he may not be eligible to play 'til December or January, if I'm not mistaken.

Not sure what Joseph's problem - it might be tardiness for all we know. But look at his numbers. He can produce. He can pass. He can shoot from outside. He can get his shot. Don't sleep with "he can't hack it at Minnesota," he was a major part of their team off the bench behind the defensive stopper Al Nolen and the shooter Blake Hoffarber.

And I would WANT a junior - another player to fill in while the other guards get acclimated, and a player who allows Lavin to recruit a 2013 player.

Russell is based out of Toronto, so that would be weird.

Without getting into him on a public board, I completely agree with you.

As someone simply put it over the summer, "There's a lot of paper bags and thugs in this business. He's just smarter than most."
