Rock the Garden Wednesday
« on: January 05, 2011, 12:31:19 AM »
I know this game is a week away but our fans have to show up Wednesday because we know 'Cuse will bring tons of fans. I just bought my tickets for Wednesday and whoever is free that night needs to be there. We have two huge games this week and this team and staff deserve our support. Let's make this a home court advantage for our team, buy your tickets now.

Man...if we could somehow grind out a W Saturday against ND, that St. John's-Syracuse game is going to be wild!  Syracuse will be undefeated and ranked no lower than #4.  We'd be ranked--probably top 20.  The Garden would be sold out because the Uconn women play our women in the nightcap and that has to be good for an additional 4-5,000 fans--the Uconn women really draw well.

A soldout Garden with two 5-0 ranked teams with fans from three schools would be a Final Four atmosphere....and on natinoal TV!

It would be great to get the sju student numbers into triple figures.

Syracuse fans support their team in NY.
We won't compete with that no matter how well we are playing.

Their alumni have pride and self respect. This is one battle we'll never win.

We might, however, win the game.

Hey Poison, what kind of dog was he? Did you have him long?
I'm sorry for your loss. Pets become such important members in our lives.

What's that... you didn't lose you best friend?

Then what's your problem?
How about one post one day without all the negativity and sarcasm?

I know I'll be there

Hopefully with a SJU hat on instead of that rag you wore on National TV!  LOL
I have a few of those hats they gave away a few years back if you need one!

I'll be there with my son, and hopefully my voice will be back by then.

What's my problem?

I've seen 20 Syracuse games at MSG and they always out man us. Not to mention out play us.

My problem is with the St.John's student body. I despise them for their apathy. They don't deserve a winner.

I went to the last Syracuse game and in Poisons defense it was literally sickening to have the Garden rocking when 'Cuse was beating us. There are some students like myself who go to almost every game and are diehards but there aren't nearly enough of us. Most students don't care and don't show up to the games. That's why I am writing it here because alumni and fans are going to have to be the ones to pack the place, so go buy your tickets.

Poison's comments regarding students are observable at the games.  one could say that the last 7 years have been dreadful and do not ignite a passion.  Another factor is the typical SJU student versus the SU one.  At SJU most kids are working their way through school so going to a game not only costs some money, it also costs the loss of pay.  (How many of us have worked outside 20 hour per week jobs while going to SJU?)   At SU, the students live off mommy and daddy and don't have to work their way through school.

In addition, at SU there is NOTHING else to do but SU b-ball or football--it is the town that always sleeps.  In NYC, there are multiple things to do in addition to 9 professional sports teams competing for the fan dollar.  Have you ever spent time in Syracuse--i have and that 2 weeks was the longest year I have ever spent; however, if you like salad bars you will be happy.

I know plenty of self made success stories who went to SU on an academic ride. And plenty of spoiled brats who went to SJU.

This isn't about money. And Redslope, which is it? If you're broke because you're working to pay for school then the NYC nightlife doesn't apply to you, but a $10 ticket would. Wouldn't it?

A ticket to this game would cost less than a movie.

And for the record, if you're comparing the nightlife at Syracuse to what you have at say the Sly Fox, you might have blurred vision.

Unless you like ugly chicks, which St,John's has led the BE in since it's inception. So the students are good at something.

I tend to agree with redslope... however I worked through school and rarely missed a game so no excuses play like a champion

That game, along with the grin on Jonny Flynn's face as he toyed with our guards, makes me hate Syracuse more than any other team in the Big East---including UCONN.

Simplyred, I think your hate is misdirected. Flynn did what he was supposed to. He made Boothe look like a D3 player.

Their obnoxious fans come to our arena and claim it as their own only because our students are apathetic.

I was talking to a Syracuse fan the other day who asked me "how many students go to SJU? 2000?"

That's what most people think.

The only problem is that you didn't say that. You said  “ Syracuse fans support their team in NY. … Their alumni have pride and self respect. This is one battle we'll never win…”

That’s taking a huge shot at all alum and fans who DO support this program.

It’s a never ending battle; getting more students to games; getting more alumni to games; getting all fans (mostly the older ones) who actually go to games to get more involved.

You complaining here daily is preaching to the wrong choir as most posters here ARE actively involved with the program, be they student, alumni, or just loyal fans.

OK, I looked in my closet and I can offer you the nice wool cap with the big SJU logo on front and ALLSTATE on back in either black or gray. I also have one of the blue wool caps with the little blue animal logo??? I think it was from Aeropostale from the Holiday Festival Tournament a few years back, but I am not positive.

I'm ashamed to say that I didn't go on Monday and won't be there against the Orange.   :-[

I'm very envious of those that go to every game to witness all of this extremely exciting and entertaining basketball live.    :(
