Tell me if you’ve heard this story before: A team starts off strong, stays with their opponent through most of the first half before going to pieces heading into the locker room.  Then, in the second stanza, it’s more of the same.  Sound familiar?  That’s because it’s been the story of the St. John’s Red Storm for each of their games over the last three weeks, save for their 18-point win over Notre Dame last Sunday at Madison Square Garden.

Let's make no bones about it. The Georgetown Hoyas' 77-52 victory over the St. John's Red Storm was decisive and thorough. As the Red Storm try to make it back through the uncleared, car-clogged snowy streets of the District of Columbia in the THUNDERSNEEZE or THUNDERSNOW, they are obviously wondering how where the crispness of the early season - the effectiveness of the offense and peskiness of the defense - went. It's not just that they are losing these games to tough teams - they're getting blown out like they don't belong in the middle of the Big East.

Apparently, Coach Thompson and the Hoyas were also aware of this, as they managed to force the Johnnies into 43 jump shots tonight out of 59 total FG attempts.  St. John's didn't make many of them [7/28 2FG jumpers, 4/15 3FG], and the rest was history.  Georgetown won with the second largest victory of the season tonight, 77-52.  Only the Appalachian State game was more lopsided.

WASHINGTON -- By the time the final indignity had been thrust upon them, when workers at the Verizon Center told St. John's coach Steve Lavin his team had 30 minutes to clear out of their locker room, reality had hit the players.

The season had reached a crucial point, if not a crisis point, after last night's 77-52 loss to Georgetown.

It was the Red Storm's fifth loss in the last six games, and two of the last three have been by more than 20 points. The team that opened Big East play 3-0 now stands at 4-5.

The mandate issued by the 10 seniors to get St. John's back to the NCAA tournament for the first time since 2002 is in serious peril.

WASHINGTON - Just four weeks ago St. John's was flying high. Off to its best Big East start in 11 years, the Red Storm was basking in national attention and NCAA Tournament conjecture and making everyone believe these Johnnies are far better than the last few editions.

They are hurtling back to Earth right now and gaining velocity with every defeat. Wednesday night it was a 77-52 loss to No. 21 Georgetown before a sparse crowd at the snowbound Verizon Center. The Johnnies (11-8, 4-5 Big East) have lost five of six and slipped below .500 in the conference for the first time this season. They are seven games into a stretch of eight straight against nationally-ranked opponents, but they know they are looking less and less worthy of a Tournament invite.

WASHINGTON, D.C. -- A storm struck our nation's capital on Wednesday -- but it wasn't of the red variety.

A white, wintry mix from above crippled the District of Columbia, resulting in a rather paltry crowd at the Verizon Center. But the home fans departed happy, as No. 20 Georgetown pummeled St. John's, 77-52.

After the game, a couple of St. John's players revealed that an internal storm may be brewing in the St. John's locker room as well.

After an eight-day break between games, Georgetown emerged Wednesday refreshed, refocused and, if its 77-52 victory over St. John's was any indication, ready to make a run in the Big East.

The 21st-ranked Hoyas opened a double-digit lead with a crisp opening 20 minutes, stamped out an early second-half challenge from the reeling Red Storm, then pulled away behind Jason Clark, Hollis Thompson and a feisty defensive effort en route to a third straight victory.

WASHINGTON -- There's never a time when the Big East's mantra (this league will eat you alive) does not apply. It fit the bill again Wednesday night, particularly in Providence, where the lowly Friars (1-6 in conference play as the day began) took down eighth-ranked Villanova (previously 17-2 overall and one of just two Big East teams with one loss).

It also fit for the two combatants at the blizzard-buffeted Verizon Center, Georgetown and St. John's, who both had four league losses entering the night. Thanks to a 77-52 domination, No. 21 Georgetown moved from 1/2 game behind St. John's to 1/2 game in front, although they both still have a distant view of the top of the standings, looking up at no fewer than seven teams.

No type of threatening weather, be it thundersnow or Red Storm, was going to stop a Georgetown team positively itching to get back on the court after a weeklong layoff and keen to avenge an upset loss earlier in the month.

With the white stuff covering everything outside Verizon Center on Wednesday, the Hoyas smothered St. John’s inside the arena with defense and put their foot on the gas offensively in a 77-52 rout in front of a brave crowd of 7,160.

With a winter onslaught raging outside Verizon Center, the Hoyas had little trouble weathering the Red Storm.

After a week off and on a two-game winning streak, No. 21 Georgetown (15-5, 4-4 Big East), led by junior guard Jason Clark's 16 points on 5-of-5 shooting, played its most complete game since beating Memphis and rolled past St. John's (11-8, 4-5 Big East), 77-52, Wednesday night.

John Thompson III switched up his starting lineup, inserting freshman forward Nate Lubick for sophomore forward Hollis Thompson, and for his athletic swingman, the move was perfect. Coming off the bench, Thompson had 15 points on 5-for-6 shooting and 2-for-2 from three and six rebounds in just 18 minutes.

Wooooooooooooooo, weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee, haha, at least I don't sound like the pig on the Geico commercial weeeeeeeeee weeeeeeeeeeeeee, can't stand it, lol.  I guess I can start with with my trip through the snow.  Four words, it wasn't too bad!  When I arrived at the Verizon Center there was hardly a soul to be seen, but I knew it was only a matter of time before the Verizon would fill up.

Once I arrived, I immediately went down to my seat.  I'd been hyped up all day long, and it's been 8 days since I've seen my Hoyas, so you know I was ready.  Once I was seated the first player to come on the court was Malik Booth and moments later a couple of St. John's coaches walked out.  As more St. John's players arrived on the court I was like, "where are my Hoyas?"
