Big East Championship or Sweet 16

What would you rather have if you were able to have one or the other

Every coach makes it a priority to win the big east.  Schools are based on league titles.  Everything else is gravy

The good news is it doesnt work that way or we wouldnt watch the games.  If i had my druthers, knowing we'd lose in the round of 16 of course you'd pick BE title, it's having something vs. not having something.

This year it would be a lot easier to get to the sweet 16 than it would to win the BE tourney.  You're talking 4-5 straight days of beating top 25 talent vs. winning two games against similar competition.  And that's before we know if STJ is even in the tourney.  Now, those odds would change if we dont take care of business in these last 7 games. 
 

But which schools have won the past 5 Big East titles?  In a league that gets at minimum 7 teams in, the conference championship isn't a priority. Tournament runs bring in money, notoriety, national attention.

Not even close, Sweet 16.

BE Championship is like beating your big brother in the driveway.  You have bragging rights.  Sweet 16 means national attention and helps recruits take notice.  Every kid wants to win the national championship, and a Sweet 16 run makes kids thinks that that is possible if they come play for us.

If we won the big east tournament this year you guys would remember it for the rest of your lives. It would be that awesome. For us to get to the sweet 16 which I think is possible, we have to avoid a the #1 seed. Winning a 7/10 game and then beating a byu or San Diego st. type team is possible.

It would be a bigger accomplishment to win the Big East but I would feel more accomplished if we made the Sweet 16.

I agree--the Big East would get us a few days on the back pages and talk of the town;  Sweet sixteen would get us 2 weeks and national coverage.  We would be a Cindarella and fan favorite with all seniors who are graduating on time and who knows how long the glass slipper would last as I believe that we have a team that recovers quicker than most in playing 2 games in 3 days

Sweet 16 by a land slide.  I would even taking winning the regular season championship outright over winning the BET.

I go back and forth...though the sweet 16 would give us the national attention...next year we would be the defending BE champs.  I like the sound of that a little better.

I'm actually a lil' stunned to see so many folk pick winning the Big East Championship versus advancing to the "Sweet 16."  There is such a euphoric feeling advancing in the NCAA Tournament.  Sure, there is an elation of winning games and the championship in the conference tournament....  But, there is just another feeling when getting to the "Sweet 16" and beyond.

I'd take advancing to the regional semifinals all day and twice on Sunday versus winning the Big East tournament.

Have we been in the desert that long, over the last 10 years what has been the average number of Big East teams making the sweet 16 3 or 3+. In other words in this conference the sweet 16 means little to those who been competitive in the conference. They speak in terms of a final four appearances. And there is only one conference champion and in the best conference that mean something.

sweet 16 by far. if we win the big east tourn we get what talked about for 24 hours before selection sunday when everybody is talking about 68 teams? we make it to sweet 16 we get a whole week of build up on espn and newspapers. and everybody loves lavin so we know he be on every show out there. Would do so much more for this program then a BE title. A title would be nice.

Big East championship gets the players RINGS.  I'll go with that one.

I'd probably go with the BE Championship.
I know the Tourney is more widely known, but the BE Tourney is played in NYC, and to me that trumps anything that has ever happened outside of NYC, no matter what.

Every other city that hosts a tourney series is less than. No exceptions.

Sweet 16 is my vote, a BE Championship would be awesome don't get me wrong but if we ran through the BE than lost in the first round of the NCAAs that would be disappointing. I would rather have an average showing in the BE tourney and then make a run when it counts in the tourney. These kids have been working for the last four years most of them to make it to the NCAAs and what better way to send them out them to make a little run. Also if we keep winning and get a decent seed in the tourney I think we have a very real shot at making a Sweet 16.
