They're both named Dwight, both went to Indian Hills Community College and both are point guards in the Big East Conference.

Dwight Buycks and Dwight Hardy are also best of friends, a bond that was formed as they played together their first two seasons at Indian Hills, which is located in Ottumwa, Iowa.

They'll square off on Tuesday night at the Bradley Center for the second time as Division I players -- Buycks a member of the Marquette Golden Eagles and Hardy a member of the St. John's Red Storm -- and for the first time as starters.

"They are best friends; they have been for the last 3 1/2 years," MU coach Buzz Williams said. "Both of them had great success in junior college. Dwight Buycks wanted to go back home and play for his Division I team; Dwight Hardy wanted to go home and play for his Division I team.

"They're the first two kids that played for (Indian Hills coach) Jeff Kidder that signed early. If you talked to Jeff, he would tell you they're two of the better kids that he's ever coached. I know both those guys are excited to play, and they root for one another when they're not playing each other.

Earlier this year, when St. John's coach Steve Lavin still was trying to find a decent cigar store and some go-to local restaurants, he was musing about his trips to the NCAA Tournament as coach of UCLA.

He talked about the value of a dependable point guard, especially one who could knock down free throws in late-game situations.

Lavin has such a player in Dwight Hardy, who yesterday garnered his second Big East Player of the Week award for his career-high 33-point effort in Thursday's 89-72 win over Connecticut combined with his solid 18-point effort in Sunday's 59-57 win at Cincinnati.
