Where Will The Team Be On Selection Sunday?
« on: March 04, 2011, 09:27:15 PM »
There's a St. John's reception (by invitation) Selection Sunday at the NY Athletic Club starting at 5:30 pm.

Do I assume correctly that's where the team will be on that momentous occasion?

I will be very upset if that is the case.  My hope is they will be on campus with the student body.

Why should they be on campus for the student body that has ignored this program for a decade?
Let them do what they want. They did this without a fan base.

lets also remember that on selection sunday is the day students will be coming back from spring break. so might be hard to get the info to the students. i would project the team to do a team only meeting room for the game like some teams do.

In the age of facebook and twitter, the students would know.

i agree but a lot of students come in late and also student mass is from 530-630. if they tried to do something with the students i feel like they would get a good amount but not an overwhelming amount

Most teams do not do it w the students.  This is THEIR moment.  They should do whatever they want.

It is their moment all right but it's an important public relations event as well.

Since their coach is also a media maven you can bet your bottom drachma that he's decided where they'll be when the announcement is made.

You can bet your bottom dollar that SJU and Lavin will be one of the schools focused on by CBS and ESPN during the selection show.  I am sure the administration knows this already and wants the kids and school to be seen in the most prestigious way possible.  Although, the SJU fanbase has been top notch this year, having the team announced with the students at CA is not what they should do.  SJU prides themselves on being NY City's team so when they are announced they should be seen in that manor.

Not sure how having students there would make the team seem less than prestigious.

Maybe they should wear red tuxedos, top hats, and gloves and carry canes.

The invitation says, "Steve Lavin and the St.John's University Basketball Team Invites You and a Guest To a Very Special Occasion, NCAA Selection Sunday Reception".

Norm Roberts held last year's NIT selection show celebration at the 7/11 on Union Turnpike.

I expect this event to be a bit nicer.
