He's a major match-up problem at this level.
For St. John's fans, there really isn't a perfect comparison with a former player, but, to pull a John Rothstein, Anthony Glover at Rice with shorter arms and more range.

LSU was his favorite.

I see a bit more athleticism and better ballhandling from Gathers than I saw from Williamson.  Nevertheless, it's a comparison I wouldn't feel bad about being a fan of one of the schools recruiting Gathers.

Appreciate it, fordham!  I also read somewhere that he had a pretty impressive weekend at Boo Williams.  Nab him and Anderson, to go along with Thomas then you're looking at a downright nasty bunch in 2011-2012.

FWIW, I asked someone who knows him this week to double-check after Boo and he gave him those exact eight schools and GT.
He said his "dream school" was Texas because of Durant and Louisiana's D.J. Augustin. He said he's definitely still open.

Get Gathers on campus and I'll start to feel pretty darn good about our chances.

At St. John’s, he’s being recruited by head coach Steve Lavin and assistant Tony Chiles.

“They basically told me I’ll come in and bring a lot of energy to them and create a lot of matchup problems,” he said. “Just coming into New York, the atmosphere of the city and the background and history of the city, as far as basketball goes it’s one of the biggest basketball meccas in the nation.”

Yes,Lavin is a professional  recruiter, hence he'll not limit his recruiting to the metro area.

For what its worth Gathers litteraly looks like he could kill someone on his way to the rim.
