I really hope I can eat my words...but we were totally outclassed today...doesn't help that I was sitting next to zag fans in good ol San Antonio...this wasn't even enjoyable to watch.

There's no doubt about it. We had no answer for anything they did. We played the entire game on our heels.
In a way they did do it for DJ. They showed everyone how much they needed him out there.

What we missed tonight was swagger. That bravado that Coach would say we had during the year. We played like scared freshman. That was awful.

1) Missed DJ more than I thought we would.

2) I knew it would be tough on the boards but wow.  Didn't help when they called a couple of phantom fouls on Burrell.

3) They couldn't miss.  Even little Stockton hit a runner from 15 feet.

4) I hate Sacre with a passion. I hope he gets Jimmered badly!
When you're a kid from New York and you do it in New York, that lasts forever!

I was upset we never saw the Brownlee/Evans/Burrell look. It worked well against Cuse.

-BYU did not look that impressive today
-I really thought that Cuse game would be a good launching point for these guys...IF ONLY they had one more year here
-The great news is that they will be credited with helping bring back SJU to relevance, all 10 Seniors will graduate, and we have a great class next year that should be fun to watch!

just got back from the game, a depressing night. i dont think we played scared, we just couldnt hold up inside. i thought paris especially played like it was his last time touching a basketball. our guys wanted it, but at the end of the day they have been giving their all every game, and with dj out there was a hole no one who could step into.

i will miss these seniors like crazy

Gonzaga looked like world beaters last night. There isnt a team in the field of 64 that would have beaten them last night

Our press killed us last night. We couldnt slow them down and they continued to score with ease. I think we should have went half court on d and just focused on getting stops.
*wipes ketchup from his eyes* - I guess Heinz sight isn’t 20/20.

They were just too big. Refs kinda took us out of our game with some of those foul calls in the 1st half, but thats not an excuse- nobody was beating Gonzaga last night

Quality bigmen and hot 3 point shooting, our achilles all year,  ended up getting us once more in the end.  We saw this against St. Bonnie,  Syracuse and Ucla and same as it ever was yesterday.  Try to guard inside and they hit threes...try to guard the three and they bang you inside.  A double edged sword we just couldn't swallow.

We couldn't turn them over for easy baskets, until it was too late, and they absolutely destroyed us on the boards as nobody else had all season long.  54% from the field, 60% from three and 81% from the line is some white hot shooting.

Prez might have helped some, particularly in the press, but as Baldi said,  there was just no beating Gonzaga yesterday as they played the perfect game. Not to mention that Pole Vault largely in his place had his usual stellar breakout game against the WCC.

Great passing, shooting, rebounding, defense and all-around smart play by the Zags.  What else is there? The ghost of Bing Crosby was just working overtime.

This 11 seed is going to be favored over a 3 seed tomorrow, right?  Has that ever happened before?

I remain bitter that many of our BE breathren were placed in much better spots than us by the selection commitee including WV, Cincy, Marquette and even Villanova who didn't even belong in the dance.

It was a great year in which the fan base was energized big time, including yours truly, as evidenced by the fact that I attended more games live (10)  this season then I have in any year past including 3 - count 'em - 3 road games.  And I thoroughly enjoyed every minute of it.  Even the 2 A10 fiasco games.

As dem bums often said in Brooklyn, "We'll get 'em next year".

Thank you Redmen!  You made us proud!

Peace out and all the best,
CA

I thought it was because they were too big at first too, but it's really because we suck on the offensive glass.  Everything was one and out.  BYU was even smaller than us, starting 6'6 and 6'8 up front.  We have one offensive rebounder and that is Paris Horne who is only 6'3.  It's the most frustrating thing in basketball when your team throws up a shot and you don't see one player from your team crashing...grrrrr!!!!  Remember those Postell/Artest/Bootsy teams...holy crap, did they create shot after shot by just crashing the glass relentlessly.

Luckily for us, we have a recruiting class that promises to be one of the more effective offensive rebounding teams in recent history.  Another thing we don't do well that the new class will surely excel at is blocking shots.  Gonzaga out-blocked us 7-0 at the half...that's sad.  Coaching basketball the one thing that always amazed me was how blocked shots tilted the game.  We had a 6'4 wing from Boys and Girls that was just absurd at blocking shots from the weakside and I you just can't account for that or put a value on it, because it is essentially taking away points from a team that just beat you to the hole and should have scored if not for a tremendously athletic play from the weakside. It also KILLS the confidence of opposing players.  They think even if I beat my guy badly off the bounce, I still won't score.   Next year if Sacre wants to back down Pelle, we'll have a handful of guys 6'6-6'8 ready to shove the ball right down his throat from the weakside and that is soooooo huge.
