2012 Out of Conference Games

Smith isn't coming out. So you have Smith and Reeves Nelson who beasted the Johnny forwards along w the Wear twins and Stover and Lane. Don't sleep on UCLA despite the lackluster back court.

Drew as well.

UCLA has talent, but it's not going to be fun to zone the Johnnies this year.

Yes Drew will be eligible after the first semester.  He, the top 100 kid Powell, Laz Jones and Jerime Anderson will be ok.  Like a previous poster said, their front line will be mammoth.   Nelson should probably start at SF. 

Also joined by first JC transfer in over 25years. Name escapes me, out of San Francisco City College

ucla will be formidable. huge deep front line will allow howland to play his preferred brand of hoops. our long quick and lean players will have their hands full.

I personally would LOVE to see them face Kentucky in 2012. Have the number 1 recruiting class for 2011 vs. the number 2.

This is a Steve Lavin Team.  There's going to be 10-12 "work out the kinks" games.  Hmmm.  8 frosh and 1 or 2 JCs.  Make that 12-15.

Ya, youre probably right. I believe Lavin did say the breakout season for St Johns would be 2012-13, that of course was before this past season

I'd hope that we'd play Fordham if only to prove that their win last year wasn't enough to scare us away. I think if you're dodging Fordham something is wrong. It will be much harder to zone us this coming season than it has been in the last 11 years.

Also while its a mismatch for us on one side of the floor its a mismatch for them on the other side of the floor.  Like you said its all how you attack it.

Announced a few months ago, around the end of the season!

I knew our participation was old news but hadn't seen the list of tournaments before...also wanted to bring it up again to see if anyone knew who we were playing in the prelim rounds.

Couple of corrections - first, Larry Drew won't be eligible till the start of the 2013 season - he left UNC after the semester break (and it would'nt make sense for him with only 1 year eligibilty remaining to join the team for half a season this year - the Bruins feature TWO senior PGs - both of whom have started more than 20 games at the 1 for the Bruins. 

Second, one of their two returning PG's, senior Lazeric Jones, was a JC All American at Logn JC in Illinois.  He took over the starting PG spot last year as a Junior.   The are replacing  Honeycutt with a 6'5-6'6 (depending on the source) JC All-American this year.   Tho he'll play Wing for the Bruins, he led City College of San Francisco to the California State title as a POINT GUARD.   

They're replacing Malcolm Lee with Freshman Norman Powell - a 6'5 Wing - if you check the RSCI rankings, you'll find him 10-15 spots AHEAD of Dom Pointer and Amir Garrett.

I'd like to see albany, Niagara, and Hofstra. Maybe a road game against St Bonaventure?         
Also I think we need to count another game already in the works which is the first round of the coaches vs cancer. I'm not positive, but I'm pretty sure we don't get to chose our opponent.

If you are looking for really easy wins you can look at Binghamton, NJIT, and Manhatten as well.

Yes, there'll be 3 teams of which STJ will play 2 that  will be assigned to play at Alumni Hall in CVC, but they'll likely be of the bunny variety.  That's 8 sure games plus possibly RI.  I'd expect 3 more relatively easy local teams to be added though personally I would recommend a road trip to Loyola Marymount.

I love to fire Baldi up! It's funny...

Shoot, St. Bonaventure might be nice. Soundly beat them for once. That would be a "decent" opponent. I like the NJIT idea as well.  And you are correct - it looks like the CvC field isn't much concerned with regional ease - Navy went to play Texas, Rhode Island to Pittsburgh, Seattle and Charleston to Maryland.

So maybe the Johnnies will get Cal State Northridge and Vermont.
