Lunardi gives a very preliminary shot at it.

He has us as one of the First Four Out.
Has 9 BE teams in.  Gtown being the 9th and among the Last Four In.

Possibly.

But I think it shows how highly experts think of our class and our staff that they would put us on the cusp of the tournament before a ball is rolled out on the court.  A return appearance isn't as far away as some feel with a freshman laden class.

Lunardi is better than anyone at predicting the field, and frankly, with 9, maybe 10 freshman the NIT would be nothing to be ashamed of. These kids might be more prepared than Lunardi is giving them credit for, but I like that he's not blowing them up ala Sports Illustrated 1994.

Expectations will be there but I'd rather not see any pre season pubs predicting greatness immediately. It backfired big time in 1995 and by game 4 it was clear that we stunk.

Understandable.  OTOH, a different group and different staff.  A group whose overall game is probably better than the overall games (coming in) of the '94 class.

Georgetown loses a ton of their offense in Freeman, Clark and Wright.  If he thinks it is basically between SJU and Georgetown for the last spot at this point I think SJU can definitely beat out Georgetown.

I was saying the same thing, fordham.  Granted, Clark will still be in the fold for next season (he's a senior).  Nevertheless, I still agree with you.

I stand partially corrected then, I thought Clark was a senior.

May look like we stink after game 4 this coming season as well.  But it won't by game 14, or game 24, and I believe we'll still be playing at game 34....

Because Lunardi makes his money analizing results after the games have been played as to who the committee will select not predicting the result of games before they are played hence his late season ever changing first four in and first four out based on the results game to game not him predicting in advance who will make the tournament.

But he's saying all things equal that we are among the 4 teams on the edge in his mind.  I don't get how this is any different than someone making pre season predictions in any sport.

Not different from anyone else making predictions just not what he is KNOWN for or his area of expertise. I have followed college hoop closely for 40 yrs and watch ESPN reliously and I have never heard of Lunardi's preseason predictions being publized.

This is the 3rd or 4th year they have done this.  Brackets are taking off in popularity the past few years.  He used to just publish as the season went on.  Now its from the beginning of the year.  He watches a lot of hoops.  More than any of us. The same amount as the Bilas', Rafts', Vitale's of the world.  I think its good food for thought as we head into any season.

Just meant his expert record of picking 97% of Ncaa T teams is after the season concludes. And FYI I will put the amount of college games I watch up against anybody as I have both cable and SAT TV with the extra ESPN Courtside package and 4 TIVO machines so I watch games live and being recently retired form State service (took the early retirement incentive package) I also watch games weekdays when most people are working or taking care of their grandkids-I am truly I sick person! :) :) :) Not that I happen to disagree with King Joe.
