iS8 Playoffs this coming weekend featuring SJU recruits
« on: May 09, 2011, 12:25:04 PM »
Hey again everybody,

iS8 playoffs begin THIS WEEKEND featuring many of our recruits.  Schedule for our recruits is as follows:

Jevon Thomas' team plays a first round playoff game on Friday night at 7PM.  If they win that game, they will play Saturday at 10:15AM.

Moe Harkless and JaKarr Sampson's team plays on Saturday at 4:30PM and if they win they would play on Sunday as well at 12:30PM.

Dom Pointer's team play's on Saturday at 5:45PM and if they win they will play Sunday as well at 2:00PM.

Moose posted on another thread that he heard Amir Garrett might fly in to play for a team at iS8 as well.  If I find out which team and at what time, I will surely post it here.

The address for the gym at iS8 is: 108-35, 167th Street, Jamaica, NY

Full schedule for all iS8 playoff games are here: http://nychoops.rivals.com/content.asp?CID=1206659

Hope to see some St. John's fans there!!

Jon Rothstein tweeted today that Amir Garrett WILL be playing at iS8 this weekend. (Nice job by Moose posting about this a few days ago).

Garrett will be playing with the Panthers on Saturday at 9AM at the VARIETY BOYS & GIRLS CLUB (not the regular is8 gym).  IF his team wins that 9am game, they will be playing another game on Saturday at the regular iS8 gym at 12:45PM.

I have been told that there will be a number of "surprises" flying in this weekend to play at iS8 (I'm not sure who so I'm not sure if these will be SJU guys BUT there are always majorrrr national recruits that get flown in to play for teams at the is8 playoffs.  The rosters are open for each team to add players).  It will definitely be fun and I highly recommend people to come experience it if they can.  It's TRUE new york basketball.

I should also add that if you ARE planning to come to iS8 and you're driving, I would recommend you bring some sort of small folding chair along.  The games are held in a middle school gym so the bleachers are a bit small and the gym FILLS UP for the playoffs and people will often bring along folding chairs to sit in along the baseline.

I will post tonight when I find out if Jevon Thomas' team won or not.  If you come out to iS8 this weekend, make sure to wear some St. John's gear.  There will be some underclassmen there that we're recruiting and showing them some love surely would not hurt.

Hopefully we'll get some guys from the board going and get some good reports.  I was planning on heading over to IS8, but I forgot that I'll be golfing tomorrow morning.

Yea I'm really hoping some guys come out.  I'll definitely be there tomorrow and I'll most likely be there Sunday as well.  It's a really authentic New York basketball experience for those that have never been there.

TRAB - Could you kindly let us know by tonight when our guys play on Sunday? What time would we have to get there by to get in? Bring a folding chair or no? Thanks.

Thanks Dave - still - could you recommend when to get there on Sunday so as not to be turned away at the door? It's a 75 mile trip and I've already seen the sights on Merrick Blvd and Jamaica Ave.

It's tight there. It's a very small gym and usually standing room only. I'd get there as early as possible to get a seat.

Harkless/Sampson, Amir Garrett and Dom Pointer's teams all won today.   Jevon Thomas' team (joined by Ricardo Gathers) lost.

Schedule for tomorrow's games involving SJU recruits is as follows:

Amir Garrett plays at 11:15AM

Harkless/Sampson play at 12:30PM

Dom Pointer plays at 2PM

As Dave said, the gym is very small, so getting there on the early side is recommended.  Also, if you can, I recommend bringing folding/camping chairs to sit in. Many people bring chairs to sit in along the baselines, especially if the bleachers are full.  You can also stand along the baseline if you'd like.

I should add that Mo Harkless sprained his ankle early on in his game today.  I spoke to him after the game and he will almost positively be playing tomorrow, he said.

also the "move ur feet lose ur seat and if u argue about it we gonna fight " rule is in effect at the gym. so the trick is for on person to leave and get the franks and soda while the other saves his spot. ps thanks for the hot dogs dave
