We'll have a lot of guys in the NBA in a few years.  I can't speak about Nuri, because the truth is that I haven't seen much of him anywhere.  I know his jumper form needs work but apparently he is a VERY effective player overall.  Regardless, sending kids to the NBA is great business for SJU.  We need more of a presence there and Lavin pushes that point VERY hard. It's part of his modus operandi from day 1.

Kids all want to play for somebody who has the kid's interest in mind as well.  IMO colleges should not pay kids to play as many propose.  What they should do is prepare them for their goals.  Lavin is smart enough to capitalize on that interest and he has delivered on it.  These kids are majoring in basketball and he's honest about the approach. It's a big part of the reason we have this talent we have coming in.

Most coaches sell kids on playing time, their system, the league etc.  For Lavin, all those things are secondary.  Lavin sells kids on playing and being in a great city, on his record of getting kids into the NBA, and on his staff's NBA experience.  We all know that SJU plays in the best conference.  Lavin plays an exciting brand of ball that caters to the best talent.  Lavin and Co. always stand by their m.o. that they're not recruiting players, they're recruiting future pros.

I can see quite a few guys in the pros.  I think Pelle, Jakarr and Harkless are surefire pros.  I haven't seen Nuri but he has the size and apparently the skills.  Amir has tools but needs bball seasoning.  Harrison has the scoring ability but may not have the height nor athleticism it takes.  Pointer might be a little short, but not on talent.  A different breed of player we're recruiting now under Lavin and talent will eventually win out, both for these kids as well as SJU.

The NBA isn't about the best players. It's about the players with the most potential.
That's why guys like Tristan Thompson and Kyrie Irving went 1 and 4, and basically they were
nothing this year in the dance.

I agree that potential plays a major role in NBA draftees.  I disagree about Irving not doing anything in the dance.  Irving actually played pretty good in the NCAA's.

Irving didn't make it out of the Sweet Sixteen.
It's not that he didn't do anything in the dance.

It's that he didn't do anything period. Drafting him
is a huge risk. But if you look at who went after him
it's a entire draft of sleepers.

Basically they are all underwhelming choices.

No Kentucky players.

DidnĀ“t Ricardo Ledo (number 15) decommit from Providence?

You said, he didn't do anything in the dance and he did.  He wasn't the reason his team didn't make it out of the Sweet 16.  Not to mention, making it to the Sweet 16 is pretty decent accomplishment for most teams.

Yes, it is a risk drafting a player who only played 11 games.  I also think he was one of the safest picks in the draft.  I understand he'll be under the microscope considering he went #1 overall, but I believe he'll be fine in the end.

I agree with you, in that the draft was underwhelming.  One of, if not, the weakest (NBA) drafts I've ever witnessed.

That's because they have Davis, Teague, Gilchrist, and Terrence Jones going in the first round in 2012.

They must not think Doron Lamb and Wiltjer are early entry NBA prospects.  That's all that's really left.

Also they're on the list of 5 of the top 10 recruits for the class of 2012, all of whom could still go to Kentucky and then be one and done.
