Wow that is football v. non-football.  This seems to be just a natural step towards a split.

If you read the post he said he'd do it along football playing lines, he probably didn't even put in the east and west, Katz probably did since he's not sure where Depaul, UND and Marquette are ; )  It obviously behooves the football schools to generate rivalries with each other in all sports in the short term to try and sell more football tix and in the long term to set up for the eventual split.

The split will never occur in my opinion because there's definitely strength in numbers when negotiating TV rights.  and since football garners more cash, but the bball only teams have more bball cache' and ratings, each group will need the other.  While being internally split divisions seems likely ala SEC, an actual split is unlikely.

Why Rick got so much to say? He's not BE commissioner, nor the President of the U of Louisville. I think he's lucky he didn't get booted. The long time coaches in the BE not griping about scheduling, why should Rick?

Pitino needs to shut his mouth. All he does lately is cry.

Dream is football splits and continues to be garbage in football.

And then those b-ball programs fall apart because
Ricky P retires.
Jimmy C retires
Jimmy B retires.

And bball is gonna fall because there is no natural rivalry. Sure think the Cuse and UConn is gonna develop a hot home-and-home with TCU and S. Fla 'stead of STJ and G'Town?!?

Meanwhiles the Catholics continue they excellence and thrive wit Xavier and Dayton and other schools that are lead by BASKETBALL and BASKETBALL only.

That is the dream.

Actually, big east basketball is making more money than big east football by a reasonable margin right now.  I don't know why these football schools think they're going to hit gold without the bball schools.  There aren't any significant windfalls to be had out there football-wise.  They're all taken already.  The best thing the big east can do is keep the league BIG because it generates the dollars.  We keep looking at this as football dollars driving the boat, but it doesn't and it won't.  If bball makes more money than football now, why do they think it will be better after a split?

I really hate Pitino.  Smug SOB.

Is it possible to play every team in the BE twice, or do the outside conference games squash that idea?

That would mean no OOC games, so it would most likely never happen.

No matter how you slice it the BE is too darn big as is.  Next year I think we're going to pay the price in the NCAAs

How do you figure?  We had double digit teams in the NCAA tourney and a big east team won the championship.  We're also making the most money as a conference.  Pay what price?

Big East football is a joke.

Let me know the next time imposter RUTgers plays much less defeats a traditional Top 20 team.  Does anyone really think that football lightweights Rutgers, Yukon, Louisville, USF and others have any national appeal?

ESPN has advised that Big East that it's television rights have greater value with StJohn, G'town, Notre Dame, Villanova and oThe non footballs as basketball members.

TCU will win most years and now finally be guaranteed a BCS game they deserve--no the Conn's

Agree 100%, Jake.  Big East Football is a joke.  Most of the non-football schools are in huge markets:  New York, Philly, DC, and Chicago.  No other conference can lay that claim.

The football schools are a few coaching changes away from being irrelevant in basketball .  Jimmy C and Jim B are going to retire and I think Rice moves along to a bigger gig in a few years.  That would be a very watered down conference in both basketball and football.

While this post has nothing to do with divisions within the BE, I really miss BC not being in the BE.

Losing Miami and VT (Sorry CR!) were no big losses, due to them being short time opponents and being FB-first colleges, I always enjoyed us playing BC.  Yes, BC was  a "big" FB school as well, but its closeness to NY and its focus on BB made them a worthy rival.
