I dont like the idea of being in a conference without Loissville and UCONN unless we have to.

You guys don't seem to get it.

Schools like Georgetown and St. John's need the football schools. A basketball only league while not necessarily the end of our teams makes it much more difficult to succeed. We would earn less money and have less exposure. Xavier is an exception not the rule. There would not be enough eyeballs in a hoops only league. You need big state football schools with large alumni bases.

We're basketball fans so I can't blame you guys for not being able to see the forest for the trees, but Basketball does not matter. At all. The best basketball game gets out drawn by a crappy football game.

Marinnatto just saved the conference (at the very least for the time being). Football is now stronger than it was before these defections: Boise St> WV(the only actual football loss), Houston> Pitt, SMU>Cuse with regards to football.

Now basketball is worse than it was, but no matter who we added it was going to be worse. You can't lose Cuse and Pitt and replace them with anyone remotely close to them. That school doesn't exist out there. But guess what the Big East goes from the undisputed best basketball conference ever to just arguably the best basketball conference: Uconn, Louisville, Georgetown, Nova, Marquette, St. John's is a great top 6 moving forward. On par with: UNC, Duke, Cuse, Pitt, Maryland, NC State; Michigan St, Ohio St, Illinois, Purdue, Michigan, Indiana; Kansas, Texas, Kansas St, Baylor , Texas AM, WV. won't even bother with SEC or PAthetiC.

Houston and UCF are both decent teams that are trending up. Moving to the BE will likely help them. These additions also open up texas to us for recruiting. The Houston area has some of the best talent in the nation.

Hoyahooligan is on point.  I've been saying this as well.  While the bball fans in us all might not like it, the league was saved by first saving football. We need football to lure TV dollars and to keep the big schools interested.  It's in the best interest of keeping the bball side of things strong and visible.  It's good for schools like SJU and Georgetown for the time being to have this large conference affiliation.  The bball league is still good, even if not as good as before.  Now we just won't have to lose to Pitt and Cuse every year.  The league will still be über competitive.  More competitive than most BCS leagues.

Save the conference? C'mon now.

This thing is a vicious cycle and the next time the fball world starts playin musical chairs, you gonna see the BE on the verge of collapse again. No doubt.

Here's the crystal ball: BE fball is still gonna suck. And so the BE fball schools is gonna start cryin that its the conference that suck, not theyselves. Then they gonna cry "Oh why, oh why aint ND in here wit the fball schools?" And then they gonna start lookin for a new home.

The commish just put his finger in the dam, cause a hybrid conference just cant work and the water will come crashin down on evrybody.

You want stability? You get it from going out on your own wit your own.

http://www.capitalnewyork.com/article/culture/2011/12/4559355/after-syracuse-death-and-football-subsidized-life-big-east-basketbal

"And what of those great original powers, the Georgetown Hoyas of John Thompson Sr., the St. John's of Lou Carnesecca and Chris Mullin, Rollie Massimino's miraculous Villanova and Jim Calhoun's defending-champion Connecticut? In the cases of Georgetown, St. John's, Villanova, Marquette, Providence, DePaul, and Seton Hall, they couldn't even dream of entry into a high-powered basketball league these days. The lack of a Division I football program would stop them at the door.

So no, there is no going back. Manley Fieldhouse, famously closed by the elder John Thompson, is the scene of a criminal investigation rather than a venue for epic battles involving Patrick Ewing and Pearl Washington.

But remember that every time Georgetown comes to Madison Square Garden to face St. John's, or every time Jay Wright and Villanova square off against Seton Hall, they're only able to do so because somewhere, thousands of miles away, Boise State is going to be playing football against San Diego State."

The basketball side is better off in this hybrid mode at least for as long as it can support it than it would in a non football league. Sure it would be stable, but in the same sense that being dead is a stable state. There's a chance that a non football conference will be the ultimate end game for our schools. But doing it by choice is foolish especially if the only reason is because it's more stable.

You ask who would want to play the bottom teams in the league. The question is what recruits would want to play Georgetown, Louisville, Uconn, Marquette, Nova, and St. John's. Plenty that's who. And sure recruits would still want to play for Georgetown, Nova, Marquette, St. John's, Xavier at first, but TV execs wouldn't pay the same for it that they pay for the current BE. It would be a glorified A-10 because it doesn't have football. The marquee games would be covered by the networks, but they wouldn't pick up the games against DePaul like they do now. They have to if they want the rest of the product. But we lose the leverage of football we'll lose a lot of coverage for our teams. All but two of Georgetown's games this year will be televised. In a non football league we'd get half at best of our games televised.

The road trip to Disney world is appealling.

Temple fits the bill. Let's bring them in. Nova will get over it.

Pitino with some pretty strong advice for Marinatto in his comments after Louisville's win over Memphis today:

"It was exciting to have Memphis back. We've had some great games with them. I'm just hoping the Big East gets smart and does something about that and allows them to come into the league," Pitino said. "I keep getting on the pulpit and saying this: We got hurt big time and we need Memphis. Memphis doesn't need us, we need Memphis. We need Temple. We need to build up basketball again."

Those two teams would be amazing additions on the bball side of things and would certainly help the football side as well.  A no-lose proposition for both sports IMO.  Memphis football will improve a lot in a better conference.  Temple is already solid.  We'd take back our place of dominance over the ACC in both football anew bball.  That's the goal, right?  Bring those two in ASAP.

Navy to join for football in 2015

http://www.zagsblog.com/2012/01/24/navy-to-join-big-east-football-in-2015/#more-65867
Yes, and trust the people that run the academy. Navy people said they would take their time making proper decision. League now on solid footing. Regarding Mr.Baldi's perception of the hoops part of the BE. You hoping, guessing, or playing around with the idea league is going to be made up of 18 crap hoops teams. Me, I think the Cuse and Pitt going the way of Boston college. BE after a year or two following changes will still be able to get 8-9 bids and will still be better then the ACC. No reason the new BE with the new geography can't get a lucrative TV deal. No reason new members would not be energized with entry into new league. Why wouldn't Rutgers, SH, DePaul, Providence, S.Fla. and SJU dedicate themselves to having programs they can be proud of. Anyone who wants to belittle this conference going forward is somehow for some reason looking for the worst.  Go Navy, proud to have you aboard.
