The Expos would have to give him the money not the single A team.
The catch is that the player can't walk on and use the pro money to pay for education so it avoids the situation you brought up.
So long as they still count as a scholarship its fair game and like half the other added benefits recruits inevitably get across the country.

Scott Burrell - who Malik used to posterize on a nightly basis - threw a baseball around and got paid for it.

I don't think Burrell ever played professional baseball.  He was drafted in the first round after highschool, but I am not sure he ever pursued it as basketball was his first love.  He is I believe the only player to be drafted in the first round for two different sports (baseball and basketball).

  There has been no indication that Lavin will be back tonight as far as I know. Once again, he will be back when he is ready.  Not a day before, hopefully.

There was a quote from dunlap within the last week.  he said lavin maybe back in two weeks .     He left it open that it could be longer.

He did have an arm though.  That pitch he threw to Tate George was a good one.

Amir also credited the fans (who have been vocal on JJ, Redmen an twitter) for being supportive and telling him to keep his head up.  Good for both the fans and Amir here.  Both win.  Happy for this kid and happy to have him on board.
