Any interest in 6'9 UVA x-fer James Johnson?

I think we probably should be.  Not sure how interested he is.  He's a big, athletic kid that would work really well in Lavin's system.  Real athlete, not a plodder.   Would be a great addition as a big body IMO.

He would fit in nicely. The transfers in college hoops are really getting out of hand.

Like I said, he fits Lavin's running style and can hit shots.  Fits that 4/5 mold that Lavin likes and has several years of eligibility.  Has nba size and athleticism to hs frame.  I'd be all over this kid considering our desperate need for frontcourt size and athleticism.  Don't know much more than some limited clips, but we have real need for guys like this.

My guess is hes not a potential star player but seems to fit a role St johns desperately needs now. Would make a good safety choice if we dont land Sampson or Gathers

He didn't have much time.   He redshirted last year and transferred after first semester this year. Sounds like he just wanted a fresh start instead of paying from behind from the start.

I think its worth a look. I think Lavin has a good idea where we stand with Gathers, Sampson & others so if he doesn't think we can get our targets maybe he's worth a shot. Being ranked 37 by scout in his 2010 means he has to have some skill. Also for what its worth he is from Southern Cali which we all know Lavin has strong ties to

If there has ever been a school and community that embraced athletes and people irrespective of color, it is St. John's University.  I have lots of favorites over the years and have never rooted for a player based on anything other than hard work, skill, and being a good teammate.
