I like this particular quote....

Jones said Martin may visit St. John’s sometime after the season.

“We’re looking to get a chance to come out and visit the campus and look at New York City,” Jones said.

Jarell Martin has a chance to be really good. Likes to rebound and he's growing into a versatile college PF with skills.

Apparently he is completely dominating at Pangos right now. Sounds a bit like Jermaine Lawrence

Notes SJU contact, but we are not one of schools pursuing the hardest. I personally hope we go strong after him, if we have any chance. It appears we have to expand options beyond Lawrence. That said, he is close to Gathers and Baylor may be tough to beat

I think he is a bit of a longshot but SJU made his first cut.

Martin's current top 10 are: Alabama, Arizona, Kansas, Louisville, LSU, Oklahoma St, SJU, Texas A & M, Tulane and UCLA.

Here is what his HS coach Jeff Jones said about SJU: St. John's: "Coach Lavin and Coach Childs have done a great job as well. They've been very consistent over the last year and a half. Coach Lavin has really taken the bull by the horns like Coach Grant and Coach Kennedy in terms of handling his recruitment. Jarell knows assistant coaches are cool and all, but they don't make decisions."

After July will cut his list to 5.

Surprised Baylor did not make cut, since he is a buddy of Gathers.

Martin doesn't mention a top 10 to Alex Schwartz but then admits his HS coach does his recruiting when asked about his leaders:

“Not right now,” Martin said of whether he has any favorites.

The big man, who averaged 5.2 points and 4.3 rebounds a game in camp action, also said he has no timetable for a commitment and that location will not be a factor in his decision.

“I don’t really know,” Martin said of who is coming at him the hardest. “They really talk to my high school coach.”

Last season Lav and Coach Chiles also made a nice impression on Damien Jones, also from the Bayou. I see he is  in top 100 by Telep and we are still listed with him. Obviouly prefer Lawrence, but it is good to be in mix for other decent bigs, like Jones and Martin. Has anyone seen anything recently on Jones?

Probably should have posted in Damien's post area, sorry!

West Coast recruiting gurus continues to report "very questionable academics" with regard to Martin.

Assume we have someone at Adidas in Indy watching this kid?
