IMO we need Obekpa.  He's the only guy who is a "center" of the bunch.  He's the only dominant shotblocker of the bunch, even though the others can challenge from the back side.  Obekpa is a long kid, a deer in the open court and allows us to gamble on D.  Obekpa is an Etan Thomas-style player and fits our style well.  Add another guy like Sanchez as a JC center and we're in great shape.

I still think we'll land at least one of Gather or Jakarr.  Not sure we'll land both.  I still love Jakarr and I might prefer him if I had to choose.  He's taller, a gazelle, handles better in the open court and he has a built-in relationship with current team.  I'd love Gathers as well.  All gravy.  Obekpa might be the most important though, to allow us to compete in the paint and challenge shots like Dieng does for Louisville.

Nurideen Lindsey 9 29.6 11.8 4.9 2.9 1.6 0.0 4.1 .462 .567 .000
Jamal Branch 11 18.6 4.2 2.2 2.5 0.5 0.3 1.9 .417 .429 .333

I am a little confused. Now first of all I hope Branch turns out to be the second coming of Mark Jackson or at the very least Mike Moses. With that being said Nuri's stats blow away Branch's in every category except three point shooting. Nuri was even a better foul shooter. Now how is Nuri a pariah for transfering in mid season but Branch is being viewed as a great get by us? I don't see how  Ican get all worked up over someone who it seems is worse than the guy everyone trashed going out the door.

I think you need to take into account that Branch is a PG. Lindsey was an off guard who was playing the point and din't want to get his teammates involved. I fully expect Branch to be a much better fit. Throw the stats away, they don't tell anything about the story of these two guards.

Nuri got a LOT more minutes than Branch.  Nuri was a starter.  Branch was coming off the bench.  His FT shooting numbers not good, but he only went to the line a few times.  Sample size there pretty poor.  That said, Nuri was a pretty good player and could have been really good here.  Problem is he was a scoring guard that drove to the hole well, but couldn't shoot nor did he work well as a passer and PG.  Nuri was also an older and more mature player.  I think they're both different types of players and neither have enough court time to judge how good they'll be, although branch has a lot more eligibility and time in college to develop.  Last I remember, mark Jackson's freshman stats in his first semester weren't anything to judge his career on.

This is an easy one. Nuri quit the team midseason because he's a selfish pussy coward with delusions of grandeur and was flunking out of school. Branch quit the team midseason because he needed to find a better situation for himself and its a sign of his high intelligence and intangibles that he didn't waste time waiting around. So he's not a quitter, he's a visionary. Although Nuri's stats would have been better had he not had to play on the same team as Nuri, they are a true representation of his abilities, whereas Branch's numbers are not - I have watched several seconds of highlight film on utube and trust me when I tell you that he's the real deal and that he will excel, especially in our weave offense.

And truthfully I enjoyed watching Nuri. Much more than Greene or Stith. I liked Larry Wright, Polee and Q Calhoun. I am not going to start hating on them becuase they transfered. I also never begrudged Berry or Artest for going pro early. I rooted for Strawberry after he left the Mets and I will do the same for Reyes this season and David Wright the next.

Saw him throwing prayers at the hoop against Wagner, I was shocked some of those balls went in the hoop. What the hell was Norm thinking on that one.

while Jamal has to sit out until after the fall semester, will he be registering for the spring sememter and taking classes here?  Will he be able to workout with the team?  If he can it can only help Phil by giving him some competition which can increase his PG skills.

This Nuri/Jamal thing just aint compatible.

Jamal: Commits to another coachin staff. Stays tru to a&m even when coaches leave. Then the new coachin staff recruits over him: J-Mychal Reese.

Nuri: Given the keys. Told this is his team. Told that he needs to lead the young'uns. First sign the staff want to reign him in just a but, the brother bolts.

C'mon now.

Playing in Poland, 2nd leading scorer on his team at 13 per game.  Shooting 39% from 3pt range.

Extrapolate it over equal minutes and "blows away" is a bit of an overstatement in every category except PPG.  In fact Branch's stats are better in rebounds and turnovers.  That said Nuri left, good luck to him.  I also agree with the poster who pointed out the age difference.  Branch will likely play for 3 years and can have a pretty high ceiling.  Of course since all armchair fans think we know all we will know about players 11 games into their college careers I'm probably wrong.

I'm told Poland is lovely this time of year.
