Don't have time to do the exact math, but I think we have had more recruits ineligible, decommit and/or transfer than current scholarship players on the roster.  Do you not see something wrong with that?

You ever see a coach that's gotta replace a whole team?

Lavin took chances he shouldn't have took.

Your hindsight seems to be 20/20. How about your foresight? What should he do?

Well, I don't get paid to recruit so I can sit back and critique.

What should Lavin do?  Keep getting healthy.  We need him back.

I just hope that our dysmal record this season doesn't hurt our future via transfers and missing out on key recruits.

See it doesn't work like that here.

You can't point out problems exclusively without offering solutions.

We're all here to discuss, debate, and analyze. Not complain and rant. If you want to do that than I'd be more than happy to give you information on how to start your own website.

Are you really this dense?  The obvious solution is we need more bodies...we need another big...we need two outside shooters.

My issues with Lavin and the staff mainly revolve around only having 6 capable bodies right now.  And there's nothing we can do about that right now.  No answers, no solutions for this season.

Finally you made an actual point with specific details. Thank you.

Of course he couldn't do it without questioning your intelligence... ::)

So much for the Villanova game thread ::)
If ILLWill posts 10 more responses to himself Dave will ask him out to dinner.
Unlike shooting 1000 free throws, some responses do not improve the poster's knowledge quotient with constant repetition.
Have the cows come home yet?????

Did you know that when Liny89 was posting here nearly 40% of your posts were directed to or in response to him?

While he was here 0% of your posts were directed to or in response to Marco Baldi.

Since Liny's left the site surprisingly 42% of your posts are now directed to or about Marco Baldi.

Yes, I actually took the time to look over all your posts and come up with these numbers. I'm not sure why you like to focus so much attention onto one poster but it's clear that you do. I think it's time I close my woodshed down. I've been on too much of a roll lately.

Forget being the called the Unofficial 6th Man of St. John's Basketball, after the patience exhibited by Dave's responses to IllWill on this thread, this site should be called St. Dave: Website of the Patron Saint of St. John's  Basketball Message Boards (I was going to go with St. Dave, the Patron Saint of Lost Causes, but St. Jude already has that title  ;)).

Seriously, I think most of us will readily agree that the current team has some glaring deficiencies, i.e., not enough bodies, bunch of freshmen, coach Lav not coaching.  What I don't get is why some posters feel compelled to repeatedly remind everyone of these facts, as if the more these apparent deficiencies are pointed out, the more valid the observations will become?

Well that is quite a statistical analysis, but your quoting me in the above when I was responding to IllWill's repetitive posts skews your % in my opinion. That quote belongs under "how many times has Beach Bum focused on ILLwill.

While I have absolutely no idea who Liny89 was, nor do I care, my quick analysis shows that you come to Baldi's defense 89% of the time anyone, not just a retired Bum like me, challenges your former global moderator:(
Cap that off with inviting him out on date and I would say I fully understand your taking the time out of your busy day to conduct such an analysis.

Would you care to tell us old bums what percentage of Baldi's posts focus on the negative that may instigate a direct response? Oh, I forgot, we are to ignore the Baldi's of this site and not respond to them by name.

That IllWill and the banned of two sites Baldi thrive here is commendable to your patience and good Catholic upbringing. To take what I say too personally makes me scratch my head considering you do not seem to do it with anyone else who challenges other's opinions here. BTW, that is all they are, opinions.

One thing is for sure though, from the number of pm's I get many here seem to agree with me but are afraid to voice their opinions because of your reaction.
That fear from St. John's fans on a SJ fan site is troubling, to say the least.

Every poster here is repetitive.  It's human nature.  How many times have we heard "The future is bright"  "These kids will improve"  "I'm proud of the effort the guys gave."     It goes both ways...

The problem is not negativity...it's posters not being able to handle/read negative posts.  How bad would Dave and this site look if he banned someone for what was deemed 'too negative of an opinion?'   Then again, very few would care either way...it's only a messageboard.

Good post, Bum.  Some posters do not wanna voice their opinion on all of the wailing and whining on here for fear how Dave is gonna react.  I have a strong personality, so I don't worry about how Dave is gonna react.  No offense or disrespect to Dave, but I think he knows that (about me) himself.

I've been on message boards since 1996, and I know how it only takes a couple of people to tear away at a board.  It can be sudden or gradual.  I've seen it occur both ways.  It's a message board, and things sometimes shouldn't be taken so seriously, but there are a small percentage of people who view it that way and they conduct themselves in that manner on each and every post.

There is a guy on my professional football team message board who likes to cause trouble 98% of the time he posts.  He doesn't post often, but when he does it's usually in a similiar manner like a poster or two on here.  He was challenged one game day (late in the football season) and his comeback was basically, it's a message board and I don't take them (message boards) seriously.  Quite frankly, that spoke volumes, and immediately told me why he liked to cause trouble whenever he decided to post.  He doesn't care about the board, so why care about being a troublemaker and a pessimists at every turn.  It's for kicks (I guess).

IMO, posting nonsense and starting some form of trouble was a way to get a reaction or commentary.  I'm not a moderator here, so I have no authority.  But, I'm sure the mods here are definitely taking notice.

So let me get this straight. Posters are afraid to post? Posters are afraid of Dave? Posters don't like criticism of the staff and team? What's the deal?

Why would someone be afraid to post?  Why would someone be afraid of dave?  He seems nice enough.  Criticism of the staff and team are fine in the context of a game. Critique game plan, critique strategy, lineups.  We don't need to hear for the umpteenth time that we only have 6 players, and that Lavin is an ass for getting sick.  I mean, how dare he do whats best for his health....jerk.  He better get back soon ..or else....

What's the deal?   I have no idea.

I'm annoyed and dismayed that so many threads become derailed with verbal sparring, because it completely distorts the initial disagreement.  And it's the debates about basketball, history, and whatever else that make this site so enjoyable for me.  But the rhetoric on both sides has gotten out of control.

If you take away the posters' profile names, their "reputations", and the comments directed at individual posters, there's usually a debate that people would enjoy discussing at the heart of even the most ridiculous fights.

Poster A: "God's Gift is regressing this season"
Poster B:  "He's not regressing he's just not improving as much as we hoped"

At the end of the day there's a whole lot more that we agree about than we're willing to admit.  Nobody on here is happy that our starting center had one rebound, 2 points, and 4 turnovers in 32 minutes on Saturday.  Nobody thinks that's good basketball.  I think literally every single poster can agree on that.

But .... why he's struggling, if we think he can turn it around, what we can realistically expect from him next season, and the other ways he may be positively impacting the game that don't show up in a box score... these are all topics we could be talking about.

But instead I just read 3 pages about "he's a flamer and a troll", "you're not a real st johns fan", "Dave's a saint for letting him post", "people don't want to speak their mind about poster X for fear of Dave" ........... what a load of crap!
