I don't think he had a chance w any of them. All of them played him. Hey free tickets at the Garden. I get it.

I thought Truck said he wanted to come here but Norm was chasing Landesberg and didn't offer Truck. As far as one we had a shot with, how about Jordan Williams. I believe it was down to SJU and Maryland for him. Two years at Maryland then the NBA. Also Pinkston was another one who got away.

Corey Fisher.  The kid had season tickets to our games practically.  All said and done, glad things worked out the way they did because we have a chance at greatness with Lavin here.  Something that likely never would have happened if Norm even saw marginally more success.

Jay Wright made him a better offer $

While I have very little knowledge on who Coach Roberts missed on, except just about every body, I do know who our own Coach C missed on.  Looie told me over lunch a few years ago that the three best players he basically rejected, not the players rejecting him, were:
*  Gary Payton
*  Dr. J (coming out of HS)
* and Dr. J (coming out of college and going into the pros)

no one would riot.  mcnpa is right...even if some players came, norm couldn't coach them.  we suffered...as payment for a bright future.

This is tough question to answer honestly because not many know all the facts. I don't think any recruit "played" Norm but I just think there were other coaches and staffs that closed much better then Norm did. As for the kids who were at "all the games', it happens at every local school with local recruits. Kyle Anderson was behind the Seton Hall bench for the past 2 years and Jaren Sina is behind the bench for most of their game now as are kids from St. Anthony & Hudson Catholic.

That being said, I don't think we ever led for Landesberg and he always wanted to leave the area.

Norm definitely got out recruited for Cory Fisher and Kemba Walker but when you look back now at the situation, how could those kids pick SJU over UConn & Nova.

i think it was fisher although norm didn't have a chance to begin with.  the most realistic high recruit norm missed was lance stephenson. not alot schools wanted him because of the baggage he came with. at that point stephenson was so desperate he was seriously looking at st john's. at the end as you all know, he ended up at cinnci of all places. again probably desperation. but i'm glad thinks happened the way it did because we now have lav.

Norm's biggest obstacle was himself. He showed everyone just how dumb he was. But to be clear, he was nice.

There were a ton of close misses.

If Chuck Martin would have stayed on the staff and didn't leave for Memphis than St. John's would have had a very legitimate chance at Kemba Walker. There's a ton of what if scenarios out there. This is more of an offseason discussion imo though.

Enough of the Norm bashing. Be happy that the players that he did convince to come, gave us one of the most satisfying seasons in a very long time. Get over it. Move on and be happy that we have a team that plays hard for forty minutes, is unselfish and is the foundation for great teams to come.

Nobody would be talking about this if we could get some damn 2012 recruits committed already.

LOL, definitely true, other than game day not much to talk about

I would definitely say Kemba Walker and Corey Fisher are the biggest misses of the NR era

I was told SJU never had a shot with Walker.  His mom wanted him away from NYC.

Truck, really?  WVU fans can't wait to be rid of Truck.  We recruited many better PG options.  I got with Corey Fisher.

kob - No riots and it doesn't matter now so why not spill the beans. I presume you mean guys other then the ones we already know. And if you know them how come the staff didn't know how close they were or you didn't tell them ?  ;D

I might be wrong, but I think Bryant wanted to go to St Johns
