So much for keeping the local kids in NY
This discussion always pops up when a NY'er picks another school.
Do you want a roster littered with NY players?
Personally I just want the best player in NY.
Correct Moose. As most of us have waxed eloquent about the dearth of bball talent in the Metro NYC area the past decade+, it's only wise to focus on the best to top 5 or so players in NY. At the end of the day, L and assts have to make inroads in areas where they're not necessarily fully plugged in. We've seen some laid out already, but at the end of the day, Coach Lavin needs to convince the top players in the WORLD to have a compelling reason to come to play at SJ's.
And as the board has thrown around ad infinitum, in looking at pluses/minuses of playing at SJ's, the biggest pull imo is getting players to buy in to playing in NYC. So I'm in on draw far and wide method. I'm sure the staff will keep up the wide open, fluid approach and get the best players for NYC. From the beginning of Rysheed's recruitment, before SJ's was totally hot and heavy, and MD was far into it, I believed SJ"s was a really good fit for his background and personality. Of course it turned out to be a great fit, and in the future, the staff needs to continue connecting on guys like RJ that will shine brightest in MSG.
Carrington would be a good fit for here, mind you, but is he a piece that fits this class? I'm not so sure yet. But I simply would like the staff to keep up the confidence play and go for the 4 star, borderline 5 star guys, and continue building the program back up. I could care less where they're from.
