Steve Novak can't get his own shot either.

Yeah he's an excellent stand still shooter, but you would never group him with the greats who all got there own shot Reggie and ray. 3 angelo just set a 3 point record at the Same college Chris mullin attended. C'mon let's give credit where credit is due. Hooper can shoot but his shooting skill set isn't as advanced as d'angelo

Its tough to tell because i've only seen him in high school while i've seen D'Angelo in college. How ever I believe its very close with maybe Hooper getting the edge if we are talking spot up shooting. DLo obviously a better player/scorer but spot up shooting Hooper might be be better

I feel you as a shooter DLo is more versatile and as of now superior. What I should of said is that if Hooper comes here with our staff I think he can be just as good if not better as a shooter. Dont want to take credit away for DLo because he was lights out this year and is going to have a very special career here

Just hearing him in the same sentence as DLO is enough to convince me. To bad he wont be eligible next year.

We have room for more than just one real good shooter.  Not sure why we're comparing, but Hooper has more than comparable range and skill as a shooter.  Different skill set as a player though.

Absolutely. I Was trying to make a point that Hooper is that good of a shooter

He is that good of a shooter.  I know he isn't the best athlete in the world, but that shooter role can be important for a team off the bench.  His lack of athleticism won't hurt us much in one of our zones or trailing on the break for an open three. 

Could also be that Hooper is 6'7 while Severe is 6'2. 

We played NCAA Tournament last season with a 6'6" center, so the height is not so important.

And Gonzaga lost against BYU (tallest player was 6'8") by 22 points, so maybe it is not.

Yes...I can't imagine he gets a waiver to come to St. John's unless he has a sick grandmother in NYC

There was no 3 point line when Chris played here.  If there was he'd have the record, easy.

Only negative on his shot is that it seems like it takes a long time for him to get it off.
Obviously, while he probably hasn't had to worry too much about having his shots get swatted up to this point in time because of his height, in the Big East, with the size and jumping ability of many players in the league, I could see his shot getting put in the stands on more than a few occasions.

I do not think you were putting Chris Mullin down in your comments on 3's.  Those of us who watched Chris play for four years know he would have probably still have the 3 point record for a season and career, as he could flat out shoot.

Comparing Max and D'Angelo, while good for this forum, probably is not realistic.  D'Angelo has done it already in college, while Max has not. We have all seen at St. John's way too many "shooters", who have disappointed us once they hit the college level.  Even Avery had his many dark moments on the court.  As a matter of fact, we have also witnessed a number of "scorers", think Nuri, who have floundered at the BE level of play.

The only thing that is certain is what D'Angelo did this past year. 

What I would like to see us have is a 3 point specialist (perhaps Max is that guy) and a rebounding machine.

With the slashers we have, Hooper would have no problem getting open looks
