Max Hooper - SF - Harvard Transfer - Irvine, CA - ST. JOHN'S

Am I missing something here?  A kid plays 4 minutes on a Harvard team, is leaning towards Oakland, I mean Oakland, not a Big East team, an ACC team, a Big 10 team, an SEC team or a Big 12 team,
and this board feels he should be playing 20 minutes on our team.  This sounds like board fodder by the video scouts on this board who use to pump up Norm's 2 and 3 star recruits like they were 5 star
recruits. Sigh!

I have no idea who said he should play 20 mins on our team, but a shooter off the bench and a kid who can sink free throws in crunch time wouldn't hurt. If he rather get more pt and he goes with Oakland no biggie.

And i know its from 2010, but rivals has Notre Dame, Syracuse, Stanford, Ore. St, St Marys, Penn, Princeton among other schools with interest in him.

A player like Max Hooper can go a long way both on the court and in the classroom for the APR score. Trust me he can play, Harvard had a roste full of Max Hooper types and he sat the bench. He can also do better than Oakland University (perhaps the kid doesn't want to go home to California) I would be shocked if a school like St Mary's San Francisco or Santa Clara wouldn't be interested.

Surprissed haven't heard Pepperdine as an option.  They're trying to reload via transfers - just got UCLA big Brendan Lane to commit for 2014.  Max would be a nice compliment from the outside.  For an Orange County/Beach kid, Pepperdine (AKA Cal State Malibu) is a great campus!

Dunno, Poison.  Dennis Johnson and Doug Christie would make a pretty fair backcourt, at least.    Don't tell Baldi, but they've sent more than 3 times as many players to the NBA as Iona  (17 to 5)!       And 8 times more than Oakland.

If you don't understand, simply ask, and I'll be happy to elaborate. Pepperdine is irrelevant in basketball. I honestly didnt think that was complicated. Unless you're trying to tell me otherwise?

Once again a thread on a player hijacked by a silly debate!!! this time on the relevancy of pepperdine basketball.

I don't know if I buy that.  Was he in the doghouse?  It's one thing if he didn't see a lot of time on a senior laden team.  But he saw zero time.  I understand he would be a specialist but he looked awfully slow on the video and that's a highlight video.  We could use a shooter but I'm not sure he's the guy we need.  I guess we'll see within two weeks.

If this kid can shoot lights out, why didn't he play while at Harvard?  I must admit, I need to know the story here.  I hate to rely on high school reports after he has logged what appears to be -- since no other explanation has been offered -- an unsuccessful attempt at a college career in an inferior conference.  Although I am sure that others will have reasons to not respect Amaker, I actually like him (but before someone goes in for me, I basically acknowledge all the issues with him).  If the guy had something positive to contribute -- in this case his great shooting -- why was he not blistering teams like Brown and Dartmouth off the bench (I don't even know which teams are at the bottom of the Ivies).  I'd like to know the story behind him.  Why did Amaker feel that he couldn't be a contributor to his team?  I'd like to share in the enthusiasm here for Hooper but it is tough.

Another negative is he has to sit out a year, not being able to provide any help for next years team. He will also take up a scholi for the following year ,when hopefully scholis are scarse.

As crazy as it sounds, perhaps bringing him on board would be a minor factor in keeping JaKaar around a bit. Note the word minor. I personally like our other options for a shooter, but could live with this schollie.

On the other hand one would wonder how quincy roberts couldn't get some mins here after he averaged 23ppg this yr at Grambling. I'm sure there are reasons why he didn't play at harvard but I'm confident that Lav and staff know what they are looking for.
