Thought it was signing day. Is there an ink shortage?

Its not signing day.  Its the start of the signing PERIOD :)

Countdown to some posters going bananas because we have no imminent signing.
Let's relax! BTW, when is Lavin coming home, beret in hand?

Maybe he isn't coming back.  Maybe he is going to coach a Euro team

(Baldi did in fact take over my computer) :)

Yes I heard from someone that said they were a Dean at St Johns ( I am not sure if that is true) and he told me that Lavin and his wife, along with Dunlap, Keady (and his fiancee and dog), Rico Hines, Tony Chiles (and his infant son) all hate the United States and want to coach in Canada or Europe or perhaps even Israel. Mo Hicks I have no idea about but may want to move back to Rice (He hasn't heard it closed yet)

Don't shoot the messenger  :P

Is Lavin still overseas?  I don't recall any big recruit announcing without the new coach there.  Could be good or bad for us.  Sure has been quiet though.

Nobody is going to announce anyway.  Have you been following?  Obekpa is visiting Oregon NEXT WEEK so nothing before then.  And Sanchez and Marco aren't visiting until end of the month also.  So outside of Chandler who isn't on anyone's radar but ours really, nobody should be expecting anything today, tomorrow, or this weekend.

Tick, tick, tick, as Moose predicted, the troops are getting restless. Doom forecasts in the making! Patience guys!

I just thought someone would commit as the signing period began.  Always hated being dangled by teenagers.  Clearly we lost some steam with 13 wins and Moe leaving. With all the PT we can offer I'm surprised bigs aren't beating down our doors.  Norm could never close because he never won.  It's tough coming off a losing year.  These kids want the post season apparently and we can't guarantee that.

We need to first guarantee that our coach will return before we can even discuss anything else.

It doesn't matter what we think. The question is what do our recruiting targets think?

If this kind of stuff is appearing on SJU fan sites you know it's the first thing that would be used against us in any competitive recruiting situation.  Now I've been a skeptic after decades of disappointment with the program but I wouldn't say anything that could be used against us.  Right now either Steve has things locked in or he's hustling to get it together.  Either way it's hard to understand the lack of buzz at present.  A little SJU noise should be good for business.  Even an unsubstantiated rumor or two might help stimulate interest.  I know Lav plays it close to the vest but after a year off I think he needs to use his media connections a little more to prevent negative rumors we don't need.  Norm made a living being on "lists" we had no shot on.  It made it look like he was doing his job and guys like Robbins played along.  Now he's writing about Cincy etc.  A little grist for the mill would be nice right about now.

Real results matter a lot more.  Gotta see who is on board when this class is done.  We already have 2 top 50 kids and Balamou coming in.  I don't think we're behind the 8-ball as much as some think.  Lavin knows what he needs to do and is doing it.  Expect a few big guys coming in this spring.  Lavin already said he'll be back.  Nothing can change negative rumors until Lavin is sitting on the bench next season.

The only negativity is coming from fans on this site. All of the targets that have been identified in past 4=6 weeks remain on the board and these were guys that we were excited about. Lavin will get his 3-4 kids and then we have a full team for next year.

He then has a much eaiser job to do next year with just recruiting 2-3 players (same for 2014)

No one jump off a bridge yet  :)

Not only that, but our recruiting class already contains a few top players.  We need more bodies but much of that due to rebuilding a team that lost 12 scholarship players in one season.  Lavin will have this 2012 class Top notch, despite being out all season and all the setbacks.   Lack of "buzz" is because of those setbacks.  If yu look at ur personnel though, things are going extremely well.  We have a fantastic coaching staff who will all be on the sideline next year.  We lost Moe, but likely will add 6-7 players ts offseason, several of whom are top 60 kids and JC players.   We're on schedule and the "buzz" will start again this season.

I just think many here are just getting a bit nervous in anticipating the announcement of Coach's recruits for 2012.  Remember, he said we would have a top class.

As soon as the first recruit commits, we will move away from the current KA, Ricardo and Iona stuff and refocus on getting us moving in the right direction.

With two of them higher ranked (Sampson and Branch both top 40) than ANY recruit St. Johns had in what, the DECADE before Coach Lavin arrived?

Unfortunately I don't see any members of the press posting things like this.  In our case no news is not good news IMO.
