It all revolves around the TV deal.

These educators are a lot like bankers.

they're more like prostitutes.  they don't care about the game...it's the money.

So true. Its disgusting whats happening w college athletics. No loyalty. The conference reallignments are destroying long standing rivalries and are wrecking the geographic distibutions of the conferences, All for the allmighty dollar.

So assuming these two newest rumors involving Boise and Louisville are true; where does that leave us?  By my count the Big east would have 11 members without Boise or Louisville.
Is this the final death blow that forces the conference to split?   Or would we look for a stop gap measure like bringing in Charlotte or East Carolina etc?

What do you guys think happens, assuming no Boise and Louisville leaves.  (far from certain I realize, but hypothetically)

If we keep bringing in Conference USA members to stop the bleeding it pretty much makes us Conference USA. The split is coming, especially if FSU, Miami, and Clemson leave the ACC for the Big 12 like people have been saying might happen. The ACC would naturally raid us again, and Big East members are such backstabbing cocksuckers that they'd never say "thanks but no thanks" to the ACC.

If true, this is big.  Huge shot in the arm for a perennial top 10 football program to play the BE.

Screw Notre Dame.  They've never done anything for the Big East.

Ive always thaught that the BE should not have taken ND for bb only. The weakness in the BE was FB. They should have taken a school w both sports. To think Penn State was turned down to join the BE. Some people thaught if the BB schools split ND would be a good school for the bb only league, but they will join another conference instead.

Interesting article that notes the uncomfortable nature of teams waiting to leave and BE functioning in an anxiety laden atmosphere. It is a shame. I almost wish the BB and non BB split would occur, but know it is not that simple.

Play in games to be played at a local venue perhaps, not MSG. Funny related comment below;

Apparently the Big East meetings in Fla are going very well, because Fox, NBC, and ESPN all made presentations that indicate they see alot of value in hosting Big East games.   It remains to be seen what the terms of their offers will be later this year, but there's at least some hope that the conference is moving in the right direction.

With the additions of Houston, Memphis, Temple etc the conference will reach 13 of the top 50 media markets, and be in the markets of 32 million households.  That's twice as much as any other conference (I believe the PAC12 is next).
So if there's a hope at holding on to this conference; that's got to be it.  That television money will right the ship, and that networks see value in the markets, even if the football isn't the greatest quality.

Cogent article on the tenuous nature of BE survival. Interesting input from Jay Wright re: non football schools.

A nice article, but Thamel is the biggest Syracuse homer on the planet.  He can't help but take a negative view on the league that his beloved cuse has divorced.

I hope the BE Presidents land a better TV deal than anticipated by people like Thamel.  This is all that matters.  They all want the money.  NBC could be the key.  NBC needs to step up and compete with ESPN.  Perhaps the BE benefits from this.  The promising news from the BE meeting is the interest that the networks have in the "new" league.

As much as this pains me to write. If true, you can see Syracuse and Pitts reason for leaving. Another blunder by Marinatto.

As I've already posted, IMO, the final nail in the pre-aligned BE's coffin was rejecting that ESPN tv deal.  With the $ from that contract, Pitt, WVa and Cuse might have stayed put.

This opinion piece has unnamed sources projecting a lousy deal while the one named source projects a good deal.

Lets wait till a deal is announced before we put a nail in the BE coffin.

You make a fair point, but BE is in a terrible bargaining position. Even if you cut the opinions in half, it bodes poorly IMO.
