Pmg, what mean by "lavin has to rethink the situation"?

Dunlap did huge majority of the X&O work for this program so its not like you can just replace him with a new Coach.

Lavin will have to make decisions about the way the team plays moving forward and what they are going to focus on in the defensive end. They have lost the guy that was the teacher of their entire defensive philosophy.

Will they stick with the zone as much, what if the new assistant is more of a man to man guy. A lot of things can change very quickly with a new Coach involved....

I don't think Lavin is so stupid to have placed every iota of reliance on Dunlap and not have a clue what Dunlap was doing here.  People selling Lavin a bit short here.  I'm pretty sure Lavin is aware of what Dunlap has been doing here for the past 2 seasons as is Rico Hines, Tony Chiles etc.  Dunlap ran several zones and certainly was the defensive coordinator.   To think that this thing can't run without Dunlap is silly.  Lavin advanced in the NCAA's to or past the sweet 16 five times and was a Baron Davis injury away from the national championship without Dunlap on the sidelines.

Lots of programs out there winning without Mike Dunkap.  I have no worries here because Lavin knows how to run this ship.  He'll hire the right guy.  We might do things a little bit differently on the defensive side of the ball depending on who comes on board, but let's not overblow this.  SJU will be fine moving forward.

And...it should be worth noting  Steve was MORE successful for 6 seasons without Mike Dunlap than he was these past 2 with him.   Of course that's just Wins and losses, but you get what I mean.   With Jim Saia as lead assistant, Steve averaged 24-11 and a Sweet 16 evry year for 6 years...and that was WITHOUT hall of famer Gene Keady there for every game and every practice!

Was listening to the Bobcats presser - Mike and the Charlotte brass talking about their vistion for the team, why Mike was there ideal candiate.   Mike saying his mandate is Teaching.  Player Development. Skills development.  Conditioning.   And I suddenly had this horrible thought - when it comes to selecting assistant coaches, it sounds like Rico Hines is an absolute perfect fit for what Mike and the Bobcats are describing....man, I don't want to have to go into this season with TWO replacement assistants!

This is not a knock on Rico Hines - but it would be much easier to replace him then its going to be to replace Coach Dunlap. There are more then enough guys out there who are work-out  specialists that can recruit a bit too.

That being said, unless it was for ridiculous money, I don't think Rico would leave Coach Lavin.

Been cruizing the Bobcats boards.  Knew Silas as a player, not so much as a coach and teacher.   But amazed how many of the Bobcat fanbase seem almost giddy after hearing Mike at the press conference and these other interviews.  They seem stunned at his ability to communicate his ideas, his obvious self-confidence, and his organizational mentality.  And his take-charge attitude.  Many seemed surprised that at the presser with team pres. Higgens and GM Cho on the dias as well, that the new-guy took complete charge, with in-depth and obviously well-thought out answers to every question asked.

Dunlap will have that organization running differently for sure.  Now they need the Hornets name back to give them an identity and they need some more talent.

Wonder if we'll see Hardy on the Bobcat's summer league team?  Mike's indicated he'll coach the summer team himself.

The talent level -- or, rather, lack of talent level -- on the Bobcats' roster is pathetic. Hopefully for Dunlap, the #2 pick will prove to be a positive force.

I like the trade of maggette for Ben Gordon for coach and the cats.  Gordon is a good guy who will be a good influence on the young guys, not to mention he gives them a shooter try sorely lack, and in all likelihood, a leading scorer for next year, giving more minutes to Ben which he wants and limiting the pressure on Kemba and their draft pick.   They certainly won't make the playoffs or anything, but I like it.

Charlotte wasn't even hitting the cap floor so its a good move.  And Kemba learning from Ben Gordon would be great for them.  Not a big fan of Maggette.  Never was.  Plus the 1st rounder is more than helpful.  DET can know amnesty Charlie V, who I saw the other night at Pro City and just did not care.  Out of shape and was laboring.

Yep the first rounder is huge, though with protection they likely don't get it until 2014 at the earliest, or possibly 2015.  Getting cut by Calipari from the D.R. team has to be a low point for Charlie V.
