“@JonRothstein: St. John's will play St. Francis NY as part of a tripleheader on 12/15 at the Barclays Center. Michigan-West Virginia same day as well.”

I think this is a mistake by St. John's....

Unless it was a marquee event I would not play at Barclays Center. We use MSG as a recruiting tool and need to stay loyal to the arena.

It is probably going to be a home game for St Francis, I do not see it as an issue.

More details emerge-

St. John’s will take on the Terriers as part of a tripleheader, which will also feature Michigan vs. West Virginia and Fordham vs. Princeton.

I don't like it. No need to make the people at MSG unhappy.

Much ado about nothing.  Remember MSG is dealing with less available dates anyway due to construction.  That's their primary concern right now.  Hosting a doubleheader featuring STJ isn't on the top of their things to do list.

I think this is a great idea.  We play a road game against a long, long time rival that had the significance at one time of being a couple of blocks for SJU down in Brooklyn Heights.  We come back to the University's roots in Brooklyn.  Maybe it will get our Staten Islanders to attend and become part of the fan base.  And hopefully it is a triple header that starts at noon and we are last on the game card as it will allow all of you to partake of the great Brooklyn restaurant scene.

I had hoped for this, I only wish we were the opening college game at the "Bark".  We should play a "road" game there annually; say alternate between St Francis and LIU in home and home's.

Great idea at building a fan base in an undernourished hotbed of basketball. Playing in the new arena will add great excitement to downtown Brooklyn basketball. We'd better get in there before Brooklyn is ceded to some other interloping school.

This will not replace the Garden but why not develop a "home away from home" approach to our program. I'm telling you Brooklyn is ready to explode. Let's make sure it doesn't explode in our faces.

Sounds like you are a Brooklyn resident as I am. Is that Slope as in Park ? Most people have no idea how vibrant a community the downtown area is .

I disagree. Do you think that we are going to get better recruits if we play St. Francis at MSG?

Last year we played 9 games at MSG (I have not included the games against Arizona, Texas A&M and Pitt in BET).

If we play 8 games at MSG and 1 at Barclays Center there won´t be any difference in our recruiting. And we stay loyal.

I like the fact that we play some games in Brooklyn.

I agree 100 percent with the comments of Coach Lavin and Chris Monasch.

The less available dates really only deals with late spring and the summer.  All major Construction starts when the Ranger's season is over this year and ends early fall with the exception of maintenance or work in other areas that won't affect the venue from holding events.   The next Phase  then starts next spring after the last game of either the Rangers/Knicks season is over depending on how far they go in the playoffs.

I see this as nothing but a positive.  What kid wouldn't want a chance to play a game in a brand new venue?  The threat of moving some games to Barclay in the future could even give St. John's a better deal with MSG.

2nd phase starts this year after the Ranger season ends.  And again next year the Rangers will open up on the road for an extended period similar to this year's 10 games to start the year.  (If there is a hockey season of course).  So your dealing with a late start date which is why the Holiday Festival got knocked down to just 1 game this year.  When in reality if they knew there would be no NBA season at that point they could have done 2 games.

And actually to follow your point I don't see this as sacrificing an MSG game.  If it is a home game then we are sacrificing a Carnesseca game.

You are spot on.  Hopefully some of our "visitors" to the great borough of Brooklyn will stick around and make an evening of it.
