Ron Ganulin? Where's he?

Love that dude.

Saw him last week in midtown on west side. It's unfortunate he's retired
So was Keady, no?

I must have missed Keady in midtown

He was the guy who told u to stop staring at his wife!

Shame UNC-Charlotte coach Alan Major is still being given a shot to turn that team around (10 wins his first year 2 seasons ago, 13 last).
If the Charlotte gig doesn't work out.....

Don't even think about failure from Major!  Charlotte is my alma mater.

Sorry - was just throwing it out there about Big Man coaching skills being missing from our staff.   I wish Charlotte all the best - one of my favorite players was a 49er, the late Rodney Odom (who started his hoops career at UCLA).

Because of proximity to Blacksburg, before my illness I used to make 4 or 5 games a year at Halton Arena.  Sometimes the scheduling on Saturday was such I could catch an early 49es game, and then watch Steph Curry at Davidson in the evening...Nice little doubleheader.

Halton is a great little on campus arena.  When I was in school we had Rodney White and that place rocked

Does Rob Werdann have any desire to be a college coach?

Heard from UCLA DOBO Tyus Edney on one of the UCLA boards that Lavin put out coaching feelers to Tyus' former UCLA and Euro teammate George Zidek a couple times since coming back to coaching.   Zidek's back in Czechoslovakia - he's GM of the Czech National Team.   Great basektball mind  - in addition to being an NBA 1st rounder, Zidek was a 2 time first team Academic All American while at UCLA.   One of his players, 6'11 240 Jan Vesely was the #6 overall pick last year.

That would really be a longshot, tho.   And not for the Dunlap  X & O spot.

Man, talk about a diverse coaching background!   D-2, D-1, NBA, WNBA, NBDL, NBA front Office.  6 years Broadcasting.  Head Coaching.  NBA scouting.  Out of the box thinking - he was the Valvano assistant who brought in Spud Webb!  Heck, for me he's got 2 of the big 3 - Virginia Tech and St. Johns on his resume!

Thanks for the info.  He would make an interesting candidate and hopefully the lure of "real pasta" and Louie talking to him at dante's will help Steve close the deal.  I am sure the money as top assistant with us versus 3rd assistant at CU would be very tempting also.

NBA?

Per his bio, he was Player Personnell and Scouting coach for the Sacramento Kings.

The staff seems to have the recruiting thing covered.

We need some uber X and O geek to replace Dunlap.

Lavs told Wingate via text he is working on a list of about 8:

According to Coach Lavin, he has a short list potential replacements in his hip pocket. "8 or so candidates," Lavin said via text. " have been and will continue to sort through them."

Many have theorized that Lavin would be looking to hire an assistant coach who is a tactician and an X's and O's type of guy, similar to Dunlap, but Lavin says he has a "strong targeted list" with a diverse range. "I just look for good people who add value," he said.

When asked specifically what qualities he seeks in an assistant coach, Lavin said that loyalty, talent and work ethic are key.

As far as a timeframe for hire a new assistant coach, Lavin said, "[I'm in] no rush whatsoever."

Rethinking the recruiting assistant thing.  This past recruiting season has certainly demonstrated the value of a TWO man dedicated recruiting team out in the field.   Could be Lav's DOES think he needs a proven experienced Senior recruiter out there with coach Chiles.    After all, this past year was certainly an annomoly - the head coach able to act as a FULL time lead recruiter.   That's not going to be the case going forward.  With Steve back on the bench and at practice full-time,  he may feel he needs someone else out their in the field leading the full-court press on recruits, while he re-assumes his normal head coaching duties, and returns to his normalrecruiting role as "the closer".

In which case, a guy like Abatemarco, with his recent western US recruiting success,  makes perfect sense.

Just speculating, of cours.

Do you?
I don't and that's not a knock on Keady but the game isn't what it was when he coached.  Keady is a helluva extra asset we have.  There are limitations on what he can and cannot do as he's not a coach on staff.

You don't think Coach Steve and his crew can coach? Happened at UCLA and here. Some sell Steve short, and I don't get it.
