Who replaces Dunlap?

What would he coach, undisciplined, freelance offense, or nonexistent defense?

Not a chance of this ever, ever happening ... nor should there be.

I love how many people are so against hiring a former NBA Coach of the Year who has been successful every stop of his international and NBA career, except for the Knicks (and maybe it was successful if you consider he was on pace to take the Knicks to their first playoffs in years with Amare, who you all hate, and a bunch of non-all stars) as an ASSISTANT coach to our team.  Tough crowd.  I'll tell ya one thing, you guys must be hankering for some Brian Mahoney, Al Lobalbo, Dermon Player, Kevin Clark, or Norm Roberts, right?  Oh wait, Norm and Brian were actually HEAD coaches here.  Wow.

lavin has worked too hard to build credibility and stability back into our program.  dantoni is a PR move with no long term stability.  recruits, coaches, and the media would see right through it.  what would Dantoni say to a recruit?  Come here, but i'll be gone before you step on campus?  a dantoni hire would go against the "Brand" Lavin is building.

Why do we need D'Antoni to recruit?  Dunlap didn't recruit too much, did he?  D'Antoni's primary purpose would be the same as what Dunlap's was...strategy and Xs and Os.  That's what we need and that's what he'd give us.  If he helps get a recruit that's great, but Lavin (and Chiles...and Rico...) doesn't need as much help in that department.

I'm all for it. I think it would be great. It's not like Dunlap was on the road recruiting all the time. I think this would be a coup. Just my opinion

Moose, do you really think hiring a big-name NBA head coach -- of the hometown Knicks, no less -- to be Lavin's assistant wouldn't be disruptive? This is not like having a Willis Reed "intern" with Looie or having someone who coached in the NBA years ago and whose pro career is a thing of the past bring valuable experience to your staff. You're talking about someone in his prime, someone who likes the bright lights and no doubt still has NBA ambitions, playing second banana to a college HC. Regardless, this is strictly "what if" speculation; it will never, never happen ... nor should it.

He's not a candidate but no I wouldn't find an issue with it at all.  Will he be an asst forever under Lavin?  No he would jump at a head job because he is more than qualified.  The biggest knock on Lavin was X and O.  Dunlap instilled some defensive ideas.  Would having an offensive guru around for a couple years hurt?  Like some articles have mentioned he is beloved out in PHX.  When Sednek gets canned he might be a logical candidate.

Seeing that we are in August now wouldn't Allocco be setting up for his program? I would think school starts in late August in Cali. If he is planning on coming here doesn't this put him in a bad position if he leaves right before his school opens. Seems strange to drag this out.

August decision was referenced by Lavin I believe. I sense Allocco is the choice and will be revealed shortly. Just my opinion.

I should phrase that we don't know who is a candidate and who isnt.

And its a lot easier IMO telling a college kid what to do than a bunch of prima donna multi millionaires.

Other than the 2012 season I'm pretty sure he had the knicks top 10 in offensive production each year with a bunch of cr@p players

Agree here.  I think Allocco has been a done deal for a while now.  I think they are probably just tying up loose ends.  Gut tells me once Allocco was interested in moving back east, Lavin A, B, C'd it...  Probably find out soon.  If Lavin has coveted Allocco for this long, he has to be the goods.
