Best backcourt in Big East?
« on: July 26, 2012, 09:29:38 PM »
Im not  as informed as some here on the newcomers in the Big East, so please share your thoughts. I know its early, but Ive gotten bored with some of the continuous threads that have been rolling on. So I ask, who has the best backcourt in the Big East going into next season? Like I said, Im not privy on all newcomers. Im assuming most might think Louisville, but Im going with Marquette. They lose Johnson Odom, but Im liking Junior Cadougan, Vander Blue and I think Todd Mayo absolutely explodes this year.

I definitely like Marquette & Louisville back court and think they are near the top. If healthy/cleared Providence will have a good but young one with Council/Ledo/Dunn. Napier/Boatright/Calhoun could be good at UCONN especially since they will be heavily relied upon

Ive liked Council too. Hes way underrrated imo. Wish he would have stayed home. Russ Smith a Big East POY candidate?

Right now I'd say...

1. Silva/Smith

2.  Napier/Boatwright

3.  Carter Williams/Triche

4. D-Lo/Branch.

Not saying the best but don't discount....

Jerian Grant & Pat Connaughton

I think these two are going to be fantastic backcourt for the Irish

Just D'Lo and Branch?  Nobody giving Greene any respect?  He's a real good young combo guard.

I'm not sure if fludd returned to usf but if he did him and carter make for a good one. Also cincy with cashmere and kilpatrick are right up there.
But being the homer that I am I would put d'lo and co up against abyone

Seems about right but considering DLo may already be the best guard in the league our back court should be formidable.  I haven't seen Branch much but Greene impressed me as a terrific third wheel last season.  Throw in our front court depth and the sky's the limit this year.

I think you are a year early with that assesment, but the possibilities are exciting.

I think if we have D"Lo and Branch as juniors on paper they could be the best backcourt in the league. By year end this year, they could be damn good.  Have to wait and see what we get out of Branch

Carter-Williams & Triche

I think Triche is overrated.

I think Boatwright blows up this season for Uconn. I think he goes pro after this season.  Their backcourt is small, but athletic and can shoot.

Who they going to pass it to up front?  Uconn has traditionally relied on a strong  frontcourt.  Boatright is talented but their team still likely to struggle because of weak frintcourt.

They are going to have to hope Daniels had a good summer and can play some four for them. If he does that, and Calhoun can play the 3 off the bat than theyll have a pretty good starting five, although it will be constructed much differently than uconn teams usally are.

Phil is gonna shock some people this year. The best backcourt in the Big East Phil, DLo, Jamal, and Dom.

I agree with you regarding Phil, hell be greatly improved this season IMO. And if Dom ever becomes a good enough shooter to play the SG spot he would be a beast and would allow for so many more lineup possibilities.
