It's funny hearing people talk about our team that obviously have no idea what they are talking about. He probably watched 1-2 STJ games last year. And by that 1-2 games, D'Lo is overrated and our backcourt sucks.

I would respect your opinion more if you actually sounded like you'd seen STJ games last year. But, no one in the right mind would call D'Angelo Harrison overrated had they seen STJ play last year.

Missing the point.. He said what his opinion was based on and what he saw. He knew no one on here would like it, but of course, everyone needed to hear him say some negative stuff so they could then let him know how dumb he is and smart they are..

Harrison is a high volume scorer...

Come on- what fan of a BE team only watches their team play.  Its not like our games are not televised.  I don't need to hear him coming on here hyping other backcourts.  Also  didn't realize high volume scorers were overrated.  The Hazel comparison was downright funny.  Ppl would have killed to have Hazell on their time.  He won games single handedly.

I'm not saying I agree with his assessment, but what did you expect?  I'm not really interested on what his motives for coming on here were anyway.  I just never got the impression, that he comes here to troll.  I usually find his posts interesting and from a different perspective.

Some of our guys tend to attack him, all the time though. It makes us look bad, not him.  Just my impression. Don't care if anyone agrees or not..

His motives are directly tied to your opinion that our guys 'attacked' him.  Ive been around long enough to say that was a tepid a conversation I've seen on these boards.  There was far from attacking.  Maybe I should go to the Gtown board and just talk randomly about 10 other BE teams but ignore Gtown.

His initial post was to talk about his teams back court, fair enough, no?  He then mentioned 2 others he thought were the best in the league...the title of this thread, interestingly enough. He also mentioned only one team that didn't have a good to above average point guard and it wasn't St. John's.

I just don't think his opinion was that off base.  There are plenty of people out there, especially fans of other teams that aren't fans of Harrison. If he was on Gtown, we would hate him and poke holes in his game all day long.  Branch is an unknown. Phil Green is a decent 3rd guard off the bench.

Point is, he didn't come here and put down St. John's players. He responded to the thread , while defending his guys.  You egged him on for his opinion, and then let the "inmates have at him"... then he got told he knows nothing about St.John's ( no kidding) and knows nothing about basketball ( jury is still out).

I  don't have half the knowledge some of you guys do about other teams around the big east, but I know St. Johns.  If I was a passive poster on another teams board ( I wouldn't be, but whatever) and I thought the posters needed a St. John's education on our team I would do what he did.  He answered the question posed and defended his guys.

No big deal. I just felt like defending him. You can all hate me now.  :)   I definitely feel that there are regular posters on here that do far worse to instigate nonsense.

The thing is, I don't have enough knowledge of G'Town to make an informed analysis of their backcourt. Therefore I won't, even if I was asked to do so. I also won't call their best player overrated, because I don't watch them enough. If you're going to go to another teams message board and say their team has a bottom of the league backcourt and call their best player overrated, you're going to get backlash.

MCNPA:

Starks averaged 7.1pts per game last year so when I say he'll double his scoring I mean he'll average around 14pts a game.

When I say to take last years stats with a grain of salt it's because due to lack of depth they were forced into prominent roles where they had to score more than normal players because the team had no other options. They received more playing time because you had about a 6 person rotation and pretty much only 2 of them could score. consistently. With increased dept, I expect the points and minutes to be distributed more.

Not sure why you take offense to the Hazell comparison Hazell did multiple things well too include steals. He was a good player. Not a great player. That's how I feel about Harrison. But fine the best comparison to Harrison's Freshman's season is Dominic Jones' Freshman season according to Kenpom. Jones is better though, was a better distributor then and a more efficient scorer. I've seen St. John's fans talking of Harrison as BE POY. I just don't think he's that good yet. He kind of reminds me of a slightly worse scottie reynolds.

Gray Chudney:

Branch was ranked 52nd on the combined rankings at RSCI, while DSR is ranked 37th: http://www.rscihoops.com/

In general:

Yeah I like going to other BE boards and seeing what they think about their own team and the other teams in the league. It's a good way to learn about other teams. I thought it would be interesting to see what you guys thought about the league's back court. I commented on that. Then I was asked for my opinion on  St. John's. It's not like the thread was St. John's Back Court. It was BE back courts. I discussed the topic. I don't know why it was weird I didn't mention St. John's in my initial post it was on best back courts of which I don't think St. John's is a part of. I never said your back court sucks. I never said Georgetown's was in the top back courts either. I just said we would surprise because I know people understandably are not expecting much from our back court because there are a lot of unknowns.

I don't think it's unfair to rank our backcourt middle to bottom of the BE, because it is so unproven. When you have freshman, you hope they work hard over the summer and improve. Branch isn't a freshman, but he has zero conference play experience. There is no upperclassman in this backcourt because Nurideen Lindsey doesn't like being yelled at.

We're counting on:

- Harrison tightening up his defense.
- Greene working on his jump shooting, and passing.
- Branch stepping in and running the offense like a natural point guard. He missed most of last season, however, he did have the benefit of practicing
with the team for most of the season.
- Balamou is a mystery to me. He'll see time immediately, because we're thin until Branch arrives.

Harrison averaged 1.6spg and probably led the team in charges drawn. I think his defense is already pretty tight but I'm all for tightening.

Hoyahooligan is a welcomed poster here. He's been a member here for a LONG time now.

Side note I really don't like Hoyas backcourt what so ever. On the flip side I love Otto Porter.

I agree. He didn't say anything that just about every single college basketball analyst has or will say before Nov.

I love when other teams posters come on board. I hate Gtown altogether and think they have the worst coach in conference, the guy is a talent killer

+1

-Georgetown backcourt sucks

-Otto Porter is a total stud player.  No chance he has more than this season before NBA jump.  Kid is fantastic.  Top 5 Big East talent easily.

Good programs, ones that dance every year, have a way of pulling sophs and juniors off the bench after the upperclassmen have left, and turning them into stars. I fully expect Gtown to do just that.

Some of his teams have underachieved but he did go to a Final Four.
