Man times have changed our 2008-09 roster.  It was sophomore dominant and went 16-18,6-12.
Are we going to have a better record this year?  We certainly have better talent and depth across the board...

5   Sean Evans   Sophomore   6-8   250

I predict that if Jamal Branch is the goods, we'll dance. That's the biggest aspect that the 08-09 team was missing. They had no capable point guard, and they faced too many great ones.

Wow. I have a good feeling the team we have now would beat this team 9/10 times. No Hardy, no Brownlee, and Mason Jr. was our best player. We have better point guard play this year, and better big men as well. And of course better depth.

That team was also decimated by injuries, FWIW.  Mason took a redshirt that year, Boothe and Thomas both missed significant time, and Burrell played most of that year in a fasemask due to a broken nose.   Never really played that year with that full of a squad, and talent-wise, there was not much to begin with, especially on the interior, where I think we will be much improved this year.

Of Norm's 16 wins, like 3 were legit.

Yeah that was the year we started out 9-1 beating the likes of Howard, Bethune Cookman and NJIT.

I still remember Billy Singleton telling me that you gotta be careful w NJIT. They're hard working and hungry for a win.
At that point in the season, I don't believe they had a win. I think that's what Jon Stewart would refer to as "Bullsh*t Mountain"

You could make a strong argument that our current second unit is better than that squad's starters.  Upgrade at every position and on the bench.

Maybe not at the 3. DJ was really good from Soph year on.

I also saw NBA upside for Burrell pre injury, so possibly not at the 4 either.  No contest at the other positions, though

As a real late-comer to SJU hoops, I can only go by what I saw of those guys as Seniors, and post- SJU.   But I wonder what Paris was like as a soph?   Really think with 4 years of Lavin/Dunlap/Rico/Chiles/Keady coaching instead of just one he might have accomplished as much or more than I'm expecting to see from most of our guard/wings on this years roster in their careers.

Definitely agree with you there.    He was a great man to man defender, and an above average shooter.    That's a good combo, especially when you're athletic like he is.
