Garrett and Jones

These guys are great complementary pieces to the puzzle.  They effect the game so positively without needing anything run for them.  I know others noticed but I wanted to highlight their contribution.

Jones is so under control, its a pleasant surprise. He really is good at making interior passes. Im not sure how he only got one rebound though.

Tremendous control by Jones...impressed me.  I think that play with him in the midpost using his wide base to back his man down while looking for cutters will be a nice play to go to a few times a game. 

Something that we need to keep an eye on:  Jones our starting center, playing 28 minutes, had ONE rebound.  He ony had one rebound in 14 minutes in the first half against Concordia.  He averaged 6 and 5 boards in high school and as a 5th year prep, respectively. 

Sampson grabbed 6 in 18, Obekpa and Garrett each grabbed 11.

Garrett is a major player on this team. He has taken the steps that all of us were hoping he would take. He was great today. He is finishing like an All BE player. No way he goes to the bench. We need him out there.

Agree.  He really needs to become a bit of a threat from the outside to become a true wing though.  He's playing great otherwise.

Also, and this is admittedly nitpicking, but;  Jones needs to work on that hook/spin shot.   He has a nice spin move but absolutely no touch after her turns.    Two or three times today he had the ball in the low post, did a spin move into the lane and literally threw the ball against the backboard.   
A little touch on it next time Christian!   

Generally though, I gotta agree - he's been a very pleasant surprise.   

Did not expect Jones to be such a polished passer - pleasant surprise.

He is taking up space ala Gift last year.  Notice Obekpa floats a bit and Jones ties down the guy down low for our other long athletes to swoop in.

He certainly has the form on his jumper to become a consistent outside threat

I rewatched the first 13 minutes on DVR and Jones lost three boards he got his hands on.  He didn't have a single rebound on either side in the half court.  He had no offensive rebounds.

Lots of comparisons out there fo Chris Jones, but one obvious that I aint seen no one make: Ricardo.

And lordy I pray they is a match up down in ol' Charleston.

That is the biggest surprise to me. Just a hard working young man.

 It's one game. Even keel boys.  Lets not kill Jones for no boards in his first collegiate game. If it becomes a trend, then that's a different story.

Plain and simple Jones is a frosh, yet does a lot of effective work; tips balls in passing lane, passes well to cutters, moves well without ball, has a decent stroke, seems calm and cool and jumps quite well. Enjoy the evolution of a four year solid program contributor! The Mona Lisa had a flaw or two I surmise.

I agree, I love Jones. For any freshman he played well. Our sophs, Greene, Harrison and Garrett played beautifully. That's the key here. Our freshman are learning. We have leadership, we have heart, and we have potential. No reason to come down on any single player after a big win. And this was a BIG win.

Sampson will come around as well, but perhaps we can table that insane NBA one and done talk?

Making a statement about Jones having 1 rebound and Sampson only 2 points is not nitpickiking it is a statement of fact about what players do during the game. We try to analize the players performance objectivly.

Just as Chris O aint gonna be avging 8 blks, CJ will avg more than 1 board and JS will avg more than 2ppg.
